What's new this year?
We're always working hard to make the Houston IM the best event it can be. Here's some new things you can look forward to this year!
- Huge, beautiful new trophy cups for Pro and overall Open and Quad race winners
- Delicious post-race meal provided by our generous sponsors: Mission Burrito, Sweet Leaf Tea, and Saint Arnold Brewing Company
- Post-race recovery massage provided by licensed professional massage therapists
- Exciting new Pre-Race Party and Mini-Expo on the sunny second-floor balcony of Cabo Mix-Mex, one of the hottest restaurants in the heart of downtown, with soaring views of the city
- New-and-improved Downtown Sightseeing Skate on Saturday, complete with rolling tour guides and police escort
- Return to using both sides of Allen Parkway, as we did in 2007
- Expanded Quad divisions in the half- and full-marathon races
...and some other fun surprises we'll save for later!
Online registration is now open!
Believe it or not, race weekend is only five weeks away. If you haven't registered yet, it's time to get on the stick! Online registration for the 2009 Houston Inline Marathon is now open, so there's no reason to wait.

This year's races and Fun Skate on Allen Parkway downtown will be on Sunday, November 1st, with pre-race activities (including the Pre-Race Party and the Downtown Sightseeing Skate) planned for Saturday, October 31st. There'll be prizes and fun for everyone, and both inline and quad skaters are welcome. We hope to see you all there! Please visit our website for all the details.
Early-registration free-hotel-stay sweepstakes!
This year, we're giving away a free stay the night before the race at our host hotel, the Doubletree Houston Downtown, to three lucky winners who pre-register for the event! One winner will be selected at each of three random drawings, which will be held at noon on September 28 (that's next Monday), October 9, and October 16. Everyone who is registered for this year's event at the time of each drawing will be eligible. This means that the sooner you register, the more chances you have to win! So don't wait... register today!

Watch video of the 2008 race!
If you haven't seen David Miles's very entertaining video of the 2008 Houston IM, you should check it out now! David is a very well-known skating organizer and activist in San Francisco, CA, who (among many other accomplishments) produces the Skatin' Place TV show that runs on local public-access broadcast there. David came to Houston last year to film our event and participate in the festivities, and this video is the result. (Good news: He's returning this year to do it again!)
More to come...
That's all for this issue, but you'll be hearing from us again soon, with more tips and info about the 2009 Houston Inline Marathon. Until then, skate safe, train hard, and keep the rolly side down! (And don't forget to register!)
