Houston IM News | Monday, October 25, 2010
Hi everyone! We hope you've enjoyed a fine year of skating so far. The weather in Houston has begun to cool off again, and you know what that means: the Houston Inline Marathon & Fun Skate is almost here! We have some important information to share with you, so let's get straight to it....
Scheduling change: Steering clear of Halloween
After last year's event, which took place on the weekend of October 31st and November 1st, we received feedback from many skaters asking us to avoid scheduling on Halloween weekend in the future, so as to avoid conflicts with holiday-related activities. We listened, and have therefore scheduled this year's race a week later, on Sunday, November 7th, with pre-race activities (including the Pre-Race Party and the Downtown Social Skate) on Saturday the 6th. We hope this choice of dates will allow everyone to participate, without putting a dent in their trick-or-treating and Halloween partying! Please visit our website for all the details.
Online registration is now open!
Believe it or not, race weekend is less than two weeks away. If you haven't registered yet, it's time to get on the stick! Online pre-registration for the 2010 Houston Inline Marathon will be available through this Sunday, October 31st. After that, the only remaining opportunity to register will be in person at Late Registration on Saturday, November 6th. Late Registration prices for the half- and full marathon races will be $20 higher, so don't wait — pre-register online today!

By the way, this year we're happy to continue our tradition of not charging any extra fees for registering online. The registration price you see is the price you pay!

Watch video of the 2008 race!
If you haven't seen David Miles's very entertaining video of the 2008 Houston IM, you should check it out now! David is a very well-known skating organizer and activist in San Francisco, CA, who (among many other accomplishments) produces the Skatin' Place TV show that runs on local public-access broadcast there. David came to Houston in 2008 to film our event and participate in the festivities, and this video is the result. Enjoy!
A word about T-shirts from our 2009 event
Last year, when we started up online registration for our 2009 event, we decided to give registrants the choice of commemorative custom socks or an event T-shirt to go along with their registration. Unfortunately, last year's event turned out to be severely underfunded, and there was simply no money to pay for T-shirts to be made. Some of those who had requested T-shirts then opted for socks instead, but others said they'd prefer to wait for a shirt. Over the ensuing year, the cost of not only making all those shirts but also packing and shipping them proved to be beyond our ability to pay. We're very sorry that we were unable to provide shirts to those who requested them last year, and we would like make it up to those folks as best we can. Therefore, we are offering a $10 credit toward this year's registration fees for all our disappointed shirt-seekers from last year. (There were also a couple of folks who paid $6 extra for a second shirt; they will receive a $20 credit.) To claim your credit, just send us an email and we'll reply with a discount code you can use when you register online. But please hurry, as online registration will close after this coming Sunday, October 31st.
More to come...
That's all for the moment, but you'll be hearing from us again soon, with more tips and info about the 2010 Houston Inline Marathon. Until then, skate safe, train hard, and keep the rolly side down! (And don't forget to register!)
