The Mint Julep
The Juniper tasting team is off to the Kentucky
Derby this week, where we'll be sampling as many bourbons as possible.
Also,
there is supposed to be a horse race going on sometime over the
weekend. We've had many customers request mint julep recipes for your
home viewing or Kentucky Derby parties. Frankly, a little ice or water
is all a good bourbon needs, but for the sake of tradition, here's how
to make a great mint julep:
Crush (or muddle) a few mint leaves in an 8-ounce glass to release
their oils and flavor, and fill with crushed ice. (A silver cup is the
traditional serving vessel, but who
can
afford one?) Add one tablespoon of simple syrup and one
tablespoon of water. Add two ounces of your favorite bourbon. Stir
gently until glass becomes frosty. Garnish with a few mint leaves and
enjoy.

Also, don't forget about our great selection of beers from old Mexico!

May Wine Specials
Frog's Leap Wines from Rutherford
Sauvignon Blanc on sale $15.29 (reg. $18.50)
Cabernet Sauvignon on sale $30.60 (reg. $37.50)
The sale starts May 1 on our selections from Frog's Leap, a winemaker
which uses organically grown grapes from dry-farmed vineyards.
Owner John Williams claims that growing without extensive irrigation
results in stronger, healthier vines. Frog's Leap is known for a
humorous approach to winemaking, down to their "Ribbit" corks. The
winery got its name by combining "Frog Farm" (where its first wines
were made) with "Stag's Leap" (where Williams had his first winemaking
job).
