Descriptions below.....

Art Car Workshop - Sunday, June 20th, 12pm-6pm

Instructors:
Ramona Moon and Greg Phelps

Description:
How would you like to start your own art car without having to collect the objects to be glued?
Would you like some motivation and some proper glue? Then this workshop is for you!  Show up at the Columbus Idea Foundry where installation and assemblage and art car artist Ramona Moon will have materials and glue, plus moral support, art cars, art car pictures, and art car artists.  The event promises to be a good time! Here’s a partial list of the types of materials we’ll have on hand: little cars, trophies, plastic fruit, little dogs, toys of all description, used marker pens and sorted toys for making rainbows, all white and all black materials, metallic things, shells from the ocean.  No prerequisite skills, but do wear old clothes and bring old rags to mop up those pesky glue spills. Please leave the smaller children and any pets at home. But do bring your car that will be transformed into a work of art, which will be your entrance into Comfest, DooDah, Hot Times Festival and any number of parades and events. Be the center of attention! You deserve it!  You can also take objects home with you that you’ll be needing to continue your good work.

Cost:
Each participant would pay $20 for the class and a $5 materials fee (for a total of $25).  We're hoping for ~10 participants.

Learn to TIG weld at the Columbus Idea Foundry!

Instructor: Jesse Mills

The Columbus Idea Foundry is offering an intro to TIG welding class, taught by Jesse Mills.  TIG welding is a sophisticated welding process that can be used with typical steels, as well as stainless steel and nonferrous alloys such as aluminum, brass, bronze and copper.  This class will teach the basics of steel and aluminum TIG welding over the course of three weeknight sessions, each 2-3 hours long.  The first session will discuss initial setup of the machine and the basics of material preparation. The second session will teach the practice of steel TIG welding, and the third will teach aluminum TIG welding.  No experience is necessary, although students who have taken an intro to MIG welding class or a stick welding class, at the Idea Foundry or elsewhere, will be better prepared to learn TIGClass size is limited to the first 6 registered students.  The cost of all three sessions together is $100, with an additional $25 for materials, for a total of $125 per student.  As with all the classes and equipment taught at the Columbus Idea Foundry, once students have learned how to use our tools, and have proven their competence with them, they may use the equipment for their own practice or personal projects at an hourly rate.

Note that this is a 3-day class; exact dates to be determined (either Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, July 19-21, or Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, July 20-22, depending on availability of possible students).  This class will also be offered again in mid- to late-August.

Power Tool Drag Race - Saturday, August 21st

Save the date!  Saturday, August 21st, ~2pm - 7pm, come to our second Power Tool Drag Race, and our first "Ohio Tool Racing Championships"!  Compete with your own racer or simply come and cheer others on.  We'll host weekly "build" sessions on Wednesday August 4th, Wednesday August 11th, and Wednesday August 18th for anyone who would like to use our shop to build their racer, or you can just bring your own on the day of the event.  We'll also have live demonstrations of crafts and fabrication at the shop (smithing, plasma cutting, CNC machining, etc), as well as raffles, a silent auction, music and much more.  The Art Car artists Greg Phelps and Ramona Moon will also be hosting an Art Car workshop that day, as well as teaching kids how to decorate their own belt-sander art car, which they can race down the track for all to see.  Prizes for everyone, from the fastest to audience favorite to most creative.  Last year, Channel 10 Sports News came and documented the event; watch the spot on our website: http://www.columbusideafoundry.com/?page_id=15 .  See you at the races!
