Bush Walking

Hi  <<First Name>>

Winter has arrived and it’s a perfect time to get out and about and enjoy some bush walking in the ideal conditions the Gold Coast has to offer.

Beautiful one day, perfect the next

Handy Hints to Assist Your Planning

Here is some really good information to assist you in preparing for your bush walking adventure.

Take a camera – you will be tempted often to take photos of this beautiful region.

Take insect repellent to keep away ticks, flies and mosquitoes. Wearing a brimmed hat on your walk through the rainforest will also reduce chance of a tick landing on your head.

Whilst you may frequently be protected from the sun by the rainforest canopy, it is still good practice to wear sunscreen on your face and exposed skin.

Take snacks for longer rainforest walks and hikes.

Toilets and drinking water are often unavailable once your walk commences, so be sure to carry plenty of drinking water with you - and be prepared to duck behind a tree in true Aussie bush style if you can’t hold the call of nature until your return. Take a hand trowel and roll of unbleached toilet paper for longer treks.

Wear well-worn, i.e. not new, joggers or boots for your rainforest walk that has good ankle support. Thongs and sandals are not recommended.

Take a lightweight jacket or sweater with you, even in summer, as the higher you climb the cooler it becomes.

Rain is a common, often sudden occurrence on Mount Warning and in other rainforest areas – so leave a towel and dry change of clothes in your vehicle for your return, just in case needed for the trip home.

At the end of your walk, check your body for ticks – including scalp, behind ears and knees, groin, and so on. Remove ticks with tweezers, getting as close to the skin as possible.
