Amy Myers: Feminine Space
Three large and labor-intensive drawings by Amy Myers will make up her exhibition, Feminine Space. The artist has exhibited her work at prestigious galleries around the United States, but this is her first solo show in Atlanta and a rare opportunity to see drawings operating at the scale of wall murals.
In a 2006 review on Artcritical.com, writer Miriam Brumer does a thoughtful assessment of Myers's large and labor-intensive drawings:
- Consciously she refers to subatomic particles, galactic forces and sexual organs, but what our eyes perceive is a magically engendered, non-specific world, in which elements tenuously exist in an activated space and in a constant state of metamorphosis. She may be thinking about science, but what she has evolved is a mysterious and tenuous world. [. . .]
At their best, her drawings are alluring and engaging. They intrigue because they do not provide full disclosure. You just want to keep looking at them and figuring them out.
