About Hobnob
Ever wonder, "What am I going to do with my life?"

Hobnob
teaches you how to filter majors and careers using your passions, talents, and values, and how to explore the best matches through networking and internships.

We make these lessons fun and easy through our
3i Methodology, a curriculum we deliver through our bootcamps and chapters. The bootcamps are professionally-led career workshops. The chapters are student-led college groups.

Finding work you love can take a lifetime.

Don't let it.

December 1, 2009

Happy Holidays and welcome to the December issue of our newsletter! Here, we share news about the chapters and bootcamps, introduce you to members of our team, and give you special bootcamp discounts.

Eureka! We figured out a solution to some of the chapter format's biggest structural problems.
You see, the 3i Methodology that forms the backbone of the chapters is a three track curriculum (Introspection, Investigation, Internship). Until now, the Emory chapter has relied on its five student leaders to lead those tracks. The most obvious question is, "How do you teach multiple tracks to different students with one team of volunteers?"

The solution that we arrived at uses two different organizational structures: large groups and small groups. The large group meetings will bring together the full chapter community for weekly panel discussions, speakers, and social events. The small groups will consist of 5-8 chapter members--plus a group leader who's been trained on discussion facilitation--who meet weekly for 6-9 weeks to work through the track of curriculum they've chosen to study. The core leadership team will continue to focus on hosting great large group meetings that build community and introduce others to our organization.
This format has several benefits:
  • It allows multiple tracks to be taught and removes membership caps.
  • Students who couldn't make the once/week meetings can join a group that meets when they're available.
  • The curriculum leaders aren't at the front of a classroom anymore. Now they participate in a "study group" rather than an "expert-led" style
  • The grassroots nature fosters stronger community and accountability than the larger meetings could.
  • This format allows the curriculum to be adopted by pre-existing communities (i.e. sororities, fraternities, religious groups, national honor societies, etc.)
The last is one of my favorites. If we do a good job recruiting SGL's (small group leaders) from various organizations, we can meet their organizations' members on their home turf through someone they already know. We're pretty excited about this evolution and so far, the student leaders and advisers we've vetted it past seem optimistic as well. We'd love to hear your thoughts-- let us know at contact@hobnobjobs.com!

In other news, the Emory chapter ended their fall '09 semester with a great presentation on how to stand out for jobs and internships by renowned branding expert
David Cohen. Chapter members also enjoyed a gigantic cookie cake, and certificates of completion were presented to those who had completed the Introspection track.

We're excited for next semester at Emory and GA Tech!

In November, students from Etowah High School joined us for career bootcamps. One of the parents picking up several students told us that, "On the way home, the boys
couldn't stop talking about it!" That's always fun to hear.

On another note, we've shifted how we set-up our bite-size bootcamps. If you'll remember, we offer two formats (One Day and Bite Size) for the various bootcamp packages (Introspection, DISC, and I.D.). The One Day format stacks the workshops in a Saturday marathon session, and the Bite Size format breaks them into short after-school workshops. We conduct the bite-size bootcamps on the campuses of partnering high schools, and until now, we've limited those sessions to students from those schools. We're pleased to announce that the Chattahoochee and the Alpharetta High Schools have agreed to serve as regional host schools. Now students can choose to attend either schools' Bite Size Bootcamps.

We've also decided to let the good times roll by extending the November discounts to any December, January, or February bootcamp you sign up for before the New Year. That means it will cost only
$99 to take the Introspection Bootcamp (normally $199); $89 to take the DISC bootcamp (normally $99); and $189 to take the I.D. Bootcamp (normally $299)! To learn more about the Hobnob bootcamps, email us at contact@hobnobjobs.com or click here.
