Haiti Earthquake Trip 3 Update

It’s been a busy week here.  We made it safe and sound even though Jon missed his plane, he still managed to find his way to Barahona on his own and we picked him up downtown off of a bus.  He had made several new friends who wanted him to come over for dinner!!

The next morning we started working on some things around the DR house and we picked up supplies to take into Haiti.  We had too much to do to go in on Wednesday, so we got up early on Thursday and traveled in.  Traffic was the worst I’ve seen so far, especially coming out of Haiti.  We spent some time with Seige, showed the guys around, talked to some old and new friends and then took off back for the DR with Pastor Luis and Rocko from CC Kearny a couple of guys who we quickly became friends with.

John immediately got busy around the camp and Wilma spent a couple of days at the hospital and then helped with the nursing duties around Camp Calvary.  I've gotten good reports on both of them since they've been down there.

We had to make a special run to the border to meet Siege this morning and among other things took him 43 chairs for their church service tomorrow.  A long morning, but after we got back I actually got to lay around and rest for a few hours, praise God!  We even played Uno with 3 little neighborhood girls, which we had to teach them and one immediately caught on and was cheating!!  We had fun.

We’re getting up bright and early tomorrow morning and heading back in, the van and rental SUV are loaded to the top.  There’s a good chance that I’ll be staying in Haiti until Wednesday, but the camp is getting really crowded so I’ll see what Seige says when I see him tomorrow afternoon.  Plenty of stuff to do on both sides and I’ve really enjoyed my time here in the DR, the friendships and discipleship have been awesome both giving and receiving, God is good!

The hospital that we were sending staff to have taken on a different course of action.  Wilma will still be able to go in until we leave, but the rest will not be allowed in.  We are going to be checking out a few other facilities tomorrow as we know of other needs, but we need to make sure of the team’s safety before we send them in.  Please pray for the Lord to open the doors where He wants them.

As I’m hoping to stay in Haiti for a few days, I hope to really have some time with the leaders there to see what they want from us in the states next.  We’re still asking that people do not just send people in, even “scouting teams,” trust me, it looks the same in person as it does on TV and we’ve gotten enough “scouting” reports to last a lifetime!

The camp area is small, it is also an orphanage, and the church has many people who are calling it home, too many people cause logistical issues and other problems that aren’t needed at this time.  We hope to have some clear cut guidelines soon as to what teams can do, where and when and who exactly will be coordinating the whole thing.  Please don’t just keep calling, emailing and bothering Seige, he’s really, really busy being the shepherd of the flock Jesus has entrusted him with.

Teams and especially team leaders need to really step back and look at the whole picture and how what all you will be doing will affect those who are in ministry and live in DR and Haiti full time and respect them and their ministries.  You’re just one team and there are many of you.  I believe they have a handle on what is going on down here, so please be patient and allow them to call the shots and be obedient.  Remember when you’re down here, Siege and CC Port-au-Prince are your covering as well as the DR ministry from CC Delta when you are there, please respect that.

We’re estimating that to come through the DR home into Haiti and back, even when the airport opens you still need supplies from the DR, will cost about $700/person plus airfare and emergency money to cover delayed, late arrivals/early departures, etc.  This will cover most meals and transportation in and out and allow some money to be given towards the relief efforts at the camp and used for such things as food, water, ministry items, etc.  Details as requested.

The food delivery ministry has started and is going well; we pray it will continue as most people still cannot get any relief from any government or non-government agency, though some does manage to trickle in here and there.

Continue to keep Haiti and the Bible teaching Christian church in your prayers.  There is a small window of opportunity for them to step up and out in faith to minister to their fellow countrymen who are going through this time and these Christians have been raised up for such a time as this.  There may never be another opportunity for an opportunity as this and many are doing just that!

Thanks for all your continued prayers and support.

Proclaiming the Lord in all we do,
In season and out of season.

Lord Bless,
