Haiti Earthquake Trip 3 Final Thoughts

We are flying home from my third and our ministries fourth trip into the Haiti/DR area. It was quite a busy time. Wilma from our fellowship and Jon from the Bowery Mission House in NYC joined me this time. Wilma is a nurse and Jon went along to help with anything that needed done to help with this mission.

We spent the first day buying supplies and doing some work around the DR home. Due to the time it takes to get into and out of Haiti, we had to wait until Thursday to head into Haiti. Jon and Wilma both worked hard and we managed to get a lot done.

We got up early the next morning and headed into Haiti. The border was crazy, the worst I’ve ever seen. This was my sixth trip into Haiti since the earthquake. Vehicles were double stacked, both coming and going. We made it to Camp Calvary (CC) and unloaded the van and met with Pastor Seige. He wanted Wilma and Jon out at the hospital immediately to check some things out and to set up a couple of tents. They also got to see some of the main damaged areas and were later taken to the airport. We had to head back to the DR as it was getting late and they are now closing the border from 7-7 DR time.

Pastor Luis and Rocko from CC Kearny followed us back out as they were flying back to the states. We searched for more supplies once we were back in town and had a good time of fellowship.

The next two days we took in supplies and personnel. I had hoped to spend some time down at CC for a few days, but they had so many people now staying there and several medical personnel it was determined that it was best if I stay in the DR working on supplies, Jon also came back out with us.

I was able to get some time with Seige and Steve, the pastor of one of two of CC Port-au-Prince’s supporting churches in the US. They were able express their desire as to what all they are praying about the Lord doing in and through them in Haiti as a result of the doors that the Lord is opening since the earthquake.

As I’ve mentioned in other emails, they will have need from time to time for teams to come in and help with certain projects, but they need to keep their fellowship busy and have many talented individuals who can do a lot of the work as they move forward. They are still asking for medical personnel and supplies (specific supplies-see our website) and until they can secure a few things, are holding off on any other teams. Pastor Steve from CC In The City in Boston will be handling all the logistics on the US end of things.

On our next trip in, my last, I managed to spend a little more time with Seige and recorded a short video. It has been posted on our website for your viewing pleasure. He really shares his heart with me as only he can so I won’t spend any time going over what all he said.

It looks as if the supply lines are running good from CC Delta’s ministry in the DR to Haiti and we’ve got the home in the DR all set for teams to come in and out and Vic’s van from CC Aventura is all set and running as well as expected for an 86 Chevy!

God has been doing some awesome stuff in many peoples lives since the start of the quake. This past week CC had a baptism as some newer believer’s, some since the quake, had still not had the opportunity to be baptized. The daily Bible studies continue 2-3 times a day, led by Shelove and they have set up worship services during some of the evenings.

Seige shared that his church has been going through some changes recently before the quake and he felt the Lord lead him to ask Shelove to teach the Word the Wednesday before the quake. He was pleasantly surprised to see how the Lord used Shelove to minister to the congregation and they all were impressed at his ability, a week later he was leading Bible studies several times a day at the camp, God knew!

God continues to amaze me at how He chooses to use me in ways that I would’ve never imagined just a short time ago. I am privileged to be part of His plan amidst the tragedies of this world and I pray that I am able to convey the Love of Jesus to others in all that I say and do. As God continues to bring different people and situations into my life, I find myself being stretched in ways I would’ve never imagined and I hope that I use this to become more like Christ and remain faithful to His call on my life.

None of this would be possible if it weren’t for the Lord and your prayers and support. Thank you for your part in God’s ministry as we do our best to be Jesus’ hands and feet to the suffering world around us.

I don’t know what all the future holds for us and Haiti. I will continue to monitor the area and will remain in touch with Seige and Steve as well as Lewis in the DR. We are also expecting Patrick to begin giving us some direction with all he has going on in Haiti soon. Patrick and
Barb are currently in Tallahassee going through their rehab and are progressing quite well.

We will help in any way that we are asked as the Lord leads. We tentatively have a fourth trip scheduled in March if we can secure medical personnel. If you have any interest in being part of this trip, please contact us as soon as possible. CC is working on putting together a medical clinic on some land next to the tent city to better support the local population as they minister to their physical needs and use this tool to draw them to Jesus.

The church downtown continues to thrive as more and more people come to the Lord and are hungry for God’s Word. The building is leased and it expires next month and they are praying about what to do as they want to continue the church in the area. The orphanage is owned by CC, but the buildings are damaged, it will more than likely have to be rebuilt and will be used for another purpose as they will more than likely move the orphanage to the new property. The property that the tent city resides on is leased and they are negotiating with the owners to purchase it. They want to erect the orphanage and a new medical clinic on site to minister to those that live in the area. It will also more than likely become another Calvary Chapel in the area as the Lord leads.

Once the property is purchased, the cement block wall around it will need to be replaced as it was severely damaged during the quake. It will cost around $15k to have this work done, basically materials. They will then need to bulldoze and remove the remaining debris from the old clinic and then they can begin building the orphanage and new clinic. The rainy season is coming soon with the hurricane season right behind it.

Please continue to pray for the Haiti people, CC Port-au-Prince and what the Lord would have you do in this long process and most importantly that the Lord would be glorified through it all.

Thanks for all your prayers and support.

Proclaiming the Lord in all we do,
In season and out of season.

Lord Bless,
