We♡MomsYouth News: As of this writing, the 2010 Mission Trip is full! There is still time to sign up for the rest of our summer trips and retreats, but you have to act fast. Remember, we can only take as many people as we can transport in the vans and/or have room for at the places we’ll be staying. The number of available spaces is therefore very specific. While we can put your name on a waiting list after an event has sold out, we cannot guarantee that anyone who got signed up before you will be eaten by piranhas, nor can we simply squeeze you in because we like you. It’s all about getting registered as soon as you possibly can. I hope you’re in Sunday school this week! I ALWAYS hope to see you Sunday morning, but this week, it’s all we’ll be doing on Sunday as a group. No after-church lunch, no UMYF. Why? Because it’s Mother’s Day! So, everybody who has the option better be doing something nice for Mom and spending at least a large part of the day with her. This would be a great week to invite your moms to church! The very few youth sponsors we currently have met this past Sunday to try and figure out how we can pull off the terrific summer we have planned without additional help. It’s going to be a rough journey for three or four adults, who can’t all be at everything at the same time. We can pull the summer off, but we’ll be able to do it well only with additional help from the congregation. There is more to serving with youth than just driving them around and opening the doors of the church. A youth sponsor builds relationships with the youth and delves with them into matters of faith and conscience, guiding them into a right relationship with God and helping them to be strong adults when they finally leave our program. With so few adults on hand, it is difficult to do much more, at times, than make sure we’ve covered all of the technical aspects of our program. The relational part of our job often gets set aside, because we are so busy trying to coordinate who has to drive, who can unlock a door while another of us is in with another group or meeting, how we can make sure we have two adults in line of sight at all times and keep faith with all of the other requirements of our Safe Sanctuary Policy, and the list goes on. The more people we have in ministry with youth, the better we can go beyond the technical, share our spiritual gifts with them, and be there for each of them on the personal level they really need from us. That is why we are asking for your help. Please give yourself the credit you are due; refrain from telling yourself that you’re too old, that you’ve done your time, that you’re too shy, have made too many mistakes with your own life, et cetera. Every youth in our program is unique, and they need variety in the personalities of their adult mentors to match their own. We are specifically looking for help in the areas mentioned below. Think about it. Pray about it. If you feel called to be a part of White Rock’s ministry with youth, talk to Glenn Clark in the Youth Office, leave a note, e-mail gclarkwrumc@gmail.com, or flag him down after church. We will find a place for you to serve! HOW YOU CAN SERVE: |
