Wilbur

Wilbur Wright's Retirement

Our Custodian of over 23 years will retire on April 30th. Wilbur has been a faithful employee, not only taking care of our building, but taking care of us. We appreciate his years of service and wish him and his wife, Minnie, many years of enjoyable retirement. We will honor Wilbur and Minnie at a reception on May 16th, following the worship service. We feel it appropriate to present them with a love offering and ask that if you are interested in contributing to this offering, that you make checks payable to the church. We will then present them with one check.

Ladies of U.M.W.
(A Note From Gail Dempsey)

These past few weeks I have spent more time shopping than usual...shopping for bridal showers, weddings, birthdays, new home stuff, and Mother's Day. I love to shop, but you know there is a lot out there and trying to decide on "just the right thing" has become an issue.  The hard part is buying something that you can afford, and something that the other person will enjoy and appreciate.  That is a lot to cover with just one purchase or one gift. So I ask myself, "am I making this purchase for the right reasons, or am I making an investment" hoping to get more out of it then what I put into it? I think sometimes I do the same thing about the church and about my relationship with God.  I do a little, but I expect to get what I asked for and I expect to receive His blessings.  After all, I tithe to the church, I volunteer at the church, I support the church, I attend worship and I love this church...so doesn't God owe me for what I have done or for what I am doing? Probably not! In Job 41:11, "no one has ever given God anything that He must pay back" Everything I have ...including my money, my time, and my talents are already gifts from God.  But you know, what I choose to do with them comes from my love for this church and for our God.  You know we all have time and talents to share with our friends and with our church, and we all have expectations for what God should do for us. It is probably not too late to make that investment from what we already have...what can you share? There continue to be many opportunities to share in our own congregation and our community. On Tuesday, May 4, Ted Beechler, Exec. Director for the White Rock Center of Hope will speak at our unit meeting. The Center of Hope was built on dreams and lots of volunteers and their talents.  They continue to be a very solid part of this community and still count on our support. Join us at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel and lunch, hosted by the Frances Fagin Circle , will be served immediately following the meeting. Blessings to all of you.

Vacation Bible School 2010
VBS will be the week of July 12th in the evenings. The theme is Galactic Blast which suggest planets, sun, neon, black lights, stars, glow in the dark space shapes, starship, galaxy, spaceships and more. The search is on to make this a fun learning experience for our church and the community. Any thoughts or ideas are welcomed as well as help in areas mentioned below. We’ll need aluminum pie plates to make tambourines. The Harmony class has already agreed to serve pizza on Wednesday night. We’re also looking for other classes to serve a light supper on Mon., Tues., Thurs. and Fri. After Pastor George's sermon on Sunday, I know you'll be hopping to serve this special week of the year as we use Galactic Blast as our theme for Praising God. You can serve in these ways: teaching, assisting teachers, decorating, providing & serving food, registering kids & advertising. Let Megan or Linda know which activity is calling you to serve for VBS.

News from Club 1450

In studying Jacob we learned how the five senses played an important part in his story. Ask your child: Which senses did Isaac use when he was blind? What is a strategy you can use to control your feelings in a conflict situation? Thank you Cathy for teaching this science lesson. From the storytelling room the kids acted out Rebecca and her twins using puppets. Ask your child to tell the story again. Thank you Becky for teaching this lesson. We will continue studying Jacob in the cooking and art rooms. See you Sunday.— Linda
