Choice Words
You turned the usually pretty awkward conversation about abstinence into something fun...it put a lot of things in perspective.
--Meghan, Prevention Student

Now I have more security and confidence for my future. You have sincerely made a difference in my life.
--Paul, Prevention Student

You guys are awesome, and I truly learned so much. I decided that I am going to be abstinent thanks to you.
--Tonike, Prevention Student

I like how you spoke to the class, not down at us. I [had already] decided to be abstinent, but I do appreciate that new info and boost in my faith. Now I feel confident enough to voice my views. Thanks so much.
--Jordan, Prevention Student

It was kind of eye-opening to see everything that revolves around sex. You should definitely come to our school again.
--Melanie, Prevention Student

President's Corner:

“The most valuable thing I learned in this program is that I am able to be loved and to love others – when I started this group, I feared I was incapable of ever letting that happen.  Thank you for teaching me how to love.”  New Beginnings support group member

What does it mean to provide hope and support to women facing unplanned pregnancies?  One very important aspect for us at Caris is to communicate to women and youth that they don’t have to continue engaging in the sexual behavior that leads to unplanned pregnancy.  We have several programs that fall under “Prevention” because they focus on helping to reduce unplanned pregnancies.

It is a complex message to communicate, because at the heart of all the risky sexual behavior is an overwhelming desire and need to be loved.  And unfortunately the stories of young women are too often stories of abandonment, abuse, shame, and deep insecurity, instead of a history of being loved just for who they are.  So while they may understand that it’s best to wait until marriage to have sex, the pull and the need to be loved will remain too strong, unless they can believe something else about themselves and their worth.

As you read this newsletter, I hope you can visualize Jesus reaching out to young women like Staci, Johnette and many others, offering His love and His care for their soul.  I hope you can see how you are helping to change lives through your prayers, your time, and your financial investment.  I pray that you will be encouraged and filled with hope as you picture God breaking off the lies that youth are exposed to every day in this culture – that you have to give yourself away sexually to be loved.  God IS love and He alone can bring the depth of love that we all crave.

I so appreciate you and your partnership with Caris. Please continue to pray for Caris – that God would reveal His love and plan to hurting and broken people through this ministry.

 Blessings,
