Ministry Update
The latest news from Caris

Looking Back

Due to unwavering support and the Lord's protection throughout 2009 we have been able to maintain all of our programs and services and we saw an increase of 30% more women! That is 2,800 women reached with hope and support! We are thankful for you, our faithful partners in ministry who have consistently been praying for the mission, volunteering time and giving financially to the ministry.

Looking Ahead

This year Caris celebrates its 25th year in existence as a Christian, non-profit whose mission is to support women facing unplanned pregnancies. We are in awe of the way the Lord has sustained and grown Caris over the years! We have a vision at Caris to continue to reach more women each year with hope and support. We are especially compelled by a recent study that reported an increase in the number of abortion procedures preformed in Cook County in 2008.

In light of this information, we continue to see how crucial our ministry is to the women and the children we serve. In 2010, we strive to be even more relevant, impactful and present for women overwhelmed by an unplanned pregnancy.

Meet Our Counselors

Every day our counselors meet with women going through what is for them the darkest time in their life. A Caris counselor is there to help her navigate through the complex emotions and circumstances surrounding an unplanned pregnancy.

THANK YOU

Sanctity of Human Life Sunday

Sanctity of Human Life Sunday was celebrated nationally on January 24th. SOHLS is a special opportunity to demonstrate that God values both the woman and the child involved in an unplanned pregnancy and that He has a plan and a future for both. Several of our church partners have found that actively supporting women facing an unplanned pregnancies has helped their members to personally connect with being a positive solution to abortion.

Thank You to the following churches who partnered with Caris in honoring SOHLS by mentioning Caris in their bulletins, inviting Caris to speak, showing a video and/or hosting a ministry table:

President's Corner

Dear Ministry Partners,

I have heard some pretty miraculous stories in 2009. Stories of women who were receiving pressure from other people to end their pregnancy, stories of women who felt there was no way they could be a good mother at this time, stories of women who were grieved at the idea of an abortion, but felt they had no other choice. I have continued to ask the question, what made the difference for these women? At what point did they realize that there is hope for them and their child?
This last year we conducted interviews of many of our clients to find out exactly how Caris helped them. These interviews are similar to the ones we conducted in 2008. While we learned even more from our clients through our recent interviews, one thing has remained constant.  Women continue to tell us that they see our counselors as "welcoming arms" in the midst of their doubt and confusion. Here are just a few quotes from our clients:

“She just really cared about what I said, cared about how I felt - treated me like those things mattered.”

“ I could really feel the compassion in her eyes. It was a good thing because I was scared and I didn’t know what to do.”

“She made me feel safe and comfortable so I could open up to her and tell her what was going on.”

I am overwhelmed when I think about what our counselors do every day – how God uses them to comfort young women, demonstrate His love, and crack open a window of hope. Will you join with me in praying especially for our counselors this month? Pray that God would continue to use them to be the hands and feet of Jesus to women when they most need help. Pray that He would encourage and strengthen them. Let’s bless our counselors during the month of February by covering them in prayer!

Thank you for all you do to bless women and children – we so appreciate your partnership.

Warmly in Christ,

Angie Weszely, President
