City Events and Important Information
Storefront Challenge
The City of Philadelphia Commerce Department and the Community Design Collaborative are partnering to acknowledge and award attractive and distinctive storefronts. Please see Nomination Form to nominate a recently improved storefront that is a great example of “Good Design is Good Business”.
Nominations for Storefront Challenge Awards are due Sept. 15th. A jury of economic development and design professionals will evaluate nominations and the winning projects, in a variety of categories, will be showcased at a DesignPhiladelphia Event on October 14th.
Also on display at the Oct 14th event will be photos highlighting the City’s $1 million investment into “Targeted Blocks Façade Improvements” implemented by our CDC partners in Mt Airy, on Lancaster Ave, el Centro de Oro (N. 5th St), 5th & Olney, and Ridge Ave, Roxborough.
Malt and Brewed Beverage Board
Green posters have been popping up around the city at liquor establishments applying for take out beer permits. If you see a green poster at one of these establishments and want to protest you can speak to the Malt and Brewed Beverage Board's administrator, Mary Jane McKinney. She can be reached by phone at 215-686-2421 or by e-mail at mary.mckinney@phila.gov.
L&I has posted information about the application process on its website. The revised protest form is not yet online. You can down load it here. Protest forms may be filed by fax to 215.686.2565 (attn: Mary Jane McKinney) or as an email attachment to mary.mckinney@phila.gov. The Malt and Brewed Beverage Board sends out weekly emails with a spreadsheet that contains details on all of the applications to date. To subscribe to these emails, send Debra.Richardson@phila.gov a subscription request. Hearings will most likely take place on Thursdays and Fridays in the same room as Zoning Board of Adjustment hearings.
