Year-End Giving

With only four days left in the year, this is likely Abort73's last email of 2009. There are two things I'd like to highlight. First, I have just posted our 2010 budget. As many of you know, we've had to significantly scale some things back entering 2010. In fact, our budget has been more than halved, except for one glaring expense. As of today, we are set to inherit an $18,000 deficit from 2009 – mostly in unpaid salaries and their accompanying payroll taxes. Looking back, it seems fairly obvious that I should have started pulling back much sooner. At the time, I was hopeful that giving would pick up (there is a painfully thin line between faith and foolishness). As it turns out, the "summer slump" in giving has largely continued through the fall and winter. Our 2009 budget required an average of just over $9,000 in donations each month. Our monthly average from June through November was $5261. And while December has historically been a strong month for us on the donation front, this December we're barely above our recent six-month average: $5,628.82.

The good news is that God is sovereign and good (and patient with naive and inexperienced ministry directors). I've no doubt that this pruning process will make Abort73 a much more effective ministry. The lessons learned will be invaluable to our future. The bad news is that those lessons don't eliminate the deficit staring us in the face. For the last four years, God has sustained us through the generosity of his people, and he can do a lot in four days. So as you celebrate the end of one year and the beginning of another, please consider the work of Abort73. We are far from a perfect ministry, but in the struggle to protect abortion-vulnerable women and children, God is using Abort73 in marvelous ways. I'd love for you to be a part:
