NUTRITION: “Feed Your Life” by Sara

Bursting with Intensity: Interval Training for the Rest of Us

This week, go for a 20 minute walk, but on this walk, try increasing your pace for 30-60 seconds and then walking an easier pace for 3-4 minutes. The goal is to get a little out of breath but not completely exhausted. Complete 4-5 of these sets for an awesome 20 minute workout! Make sure to pay attention to your body - and your emotional reactions (self-talk) - during this exercise. Make sure not to push yourself beyond your physical or emotional comfort level. To learn more about this method and how you can reap benefits from trying it out, read Feed Your Life.

FITNESS: “Fitness For All” by Sue

The Mini-cation Zoned-Out Walk-About

As the weather begins to get nicer all around the world (warming up for you northern hemisphere folks and cooling off a bit for those of us in the southern hemisphere), change is in the air. One of the greatest things to do as the cycles of the world are changing is to change your environment in order to change the cycle of your life by mixing things up a bit. Obviously recommending a vacation isn’t an easy thing to do (well, recommending it is, but you following through less so), because that requires money, time and more. However, what you can do is try to get away for just a short period of time - a night if you can and if not, just for a day trip sometime during the weekend. Call it a mini-cation, if you will. If you live within driving distance of a beach, or a nice lake, some mountains or even if there’s just a neat little town nearby that make for a nice day trip, go visit. And because this isn’t a week on the beach during which the lounge chair seems so inviting (and trust me, I understand that) take the opportunity on this mini-cation to walk around and explore your new and temporary environment. The pace is yours to choose, but find the relaxation in the movement by getting into a rhythm, letting your mind wonder and just zoning out in a new place. If you can’t get far away from home you could even go to a part of your city that you’ve never been to and try this zone-out, rhythm-paced, relaxation walk-about there. The trick is just to be some place you’ve never been before. Want to hear about my recent vacation and exploring a new environment? Read Fitness For All.

Word of the Week: Control, by Andrea

Society tell us that we must always be in control. Being out of control is just a no-no. But it can be incredibly relieving to let go and just be out of control sometimes. Have you ever just yelled at the top of your lungs while driving with the windows down? Very cathartic, I must say. To read more about Andrea’s thoughts about being in control, check out our word of the week!

Quote of the Week:

The person who says it cannot be done should not interrupt the person doing it.
