MENTAL WELLNESS: “Soul Food” by Golda

There, there, Honey: Have Compassion For Yourself

This week, have compassion for yourself!  Think about those parts of you that you tend not to have compassion for, e.g. a body part, tardiness, clumsiness, impulse shopping, etc, and see if having compassion doesn’t make a resolution to the issue a little more visible. You should exercise compassion because being kind to yourself about a recurring "bad habit" actually allows you to connect with possible solutions - like future punctuality - rather than intrench what you see as a problem.  Try operating from a place of compassion, rather than judgment, and see how it affects your week. NUTRITION: “Feed Your Life” by Sara

Look into the Crystal (Melon) Ball

This week, take some time to explore your own beliefs about the connections between your sense of life’s meaning and your relationship with food and with yourself. This is about the interplay of the mind, spirit and body and what you think about them. This might seem a bit vague and challenging - something easily dismissed as it’s less ‘actionable’ then many of my tips - but when you take the time to think about these things, you may recognize what you’re most hungry for in life. Start to enhance this mind-spirit-body connection by understanding your sense of life’s meaning and what you truly appreciate and value in this life. To understand more about these connections and relationships and for a related book recommendation, check out Feed Your Life.

FITNESS: “Fitness For All” by Sue

3 Time-Management Skills That Make Time For You

It’s not easy fitting in fitness, but here are three ways to make time for your health and wellbeing:

- Schedule It. By putting everything in your calendar, from the diurnal tasks, to the weekly appointments, you will be able to schedule time to fit in fitness. This doesn’t have to be a trip to the gym - maybe a ten minute walk here or a desk exercise or two there.

- Condense Tasks & Let Technology Assist.  Currently, I am learning new skills, some of which require that I listen to a series of audio CDs.  Since being near a CD player required stagnation, I came up with a solution (I love the word solution - you don’t really have a problem when you have a solution): I downloaded the CD onto my phone and listen while I am out walking or running. Two birds; one stone.

- Take Advantage of Cancellations and Rescheduling.  Sometimes during the week appointments get cancelled or shuffled around. I call this opportunity.  This ‘open’ time is a great time to concentrate on your own health and wellbeing.

This week, try using these valuable skills to help you manage your time and fit in your own health and wellbeing.  Please read Fitness For All this week on how I have managed to thwart the negligence of my health despite dwindling space on the schedule.

Word of the Week: Natural, by Andrea

I will always be grateful for my Mother’s insistence that natural is beautiful, that I don’t need tons of makeup and artificial supplies to make me beautiful. I don’t need to conform to a societally defined acceptable type of beauty. My Mom wanted (and still wants) me to always be clean and presentable, but I was never under much pressure to conform to unnatural ideals. I think this helped me maintain my self-esteem through the years. Of course I struggle sometimes and must remind myself that those who really love me will love me for who I am naturally.

Quote of the Week:

To accept ourselves as we are means to value our imperfections as much as our perfections.
- Sandra Bierig
