THE GREEN STUFF
Summer's here, the sun is out and that means Where's Cool? travelers are on the prowl for the world's best underrated recreational retreats. Avoid crowds by hitting up the green spots - there's enough nature for all of us. Seek out these grassy knolls for some much needed down time, impromptu picnics, summer concerts, or just to kick back and sky gaze with the locals (By Kat).
Parc Guell, Barcelona
JohnS finds constant fascination with this interesting take on a public park, despite the tourist draw. "It's bizzare, unique, beautiful, clashing and wonderful" and large enough to enjoy Gaudi's architecture from your own shady spot.

Dolores Park, San Francisco
Globetrotter and Racheljaneg both recommend this sprawling green hillside for people watching and kicking back with a couple of ice cold San Fran brewskies.

Kadriorg Park, Tallin
Locals seem to like the stomping grounds of Peter the Great, full of "elderly couples and young mothers pushing strollers while seeking a respite from city life." Smithjen78 says that picnicking here is essential.

Hartwood Acres, Pittburgh
Perfect place to hear some free summer jams on Sundays, according to Annaz2k7. She also says to "disregard the lone alcohol prohibited sign."

Botanical Gardens, Buenos Aires
Get out of the hot Argentine sun and into the cool shade of this unique garden space, where you can nap, hook up or pet the "wayward cat (the cuddly, non-rabid kind)" Whitney has grown to love.
