Barcus-Berry
Artist Q&A
with Natalie Murphy, Violinist

Q: How long have you been playing your Barcus-Berry violin?
NATALIE: I got my first Barcus-Berry violin two years ago when I started playing with GB Leighton. Jason Perri, the previous violin player, got me hooked.

Q: The Barcus-Berry violin you play has a unique color. Does it attract more attention?
NATALIE:
People comment every night on my "amethyst" violin. They love the way it changes from blue to purple and even red in certain lights. I love walking out on stage and seeing someone pointing in my direction, noticing the violin's unique color. It definitely boosts my confidence.

Q:  Do you have any specific memories associated with your blue violin?
NATALIE: Last year my band went out on tour with the BoDeans for a month, and I used my blue violin. It sounded awesome in the larger theatres that we got to play. Again, I saw people pointing in the direction of my violin. They love its color as well as its sound!

Q: How does the performance and sound of the violin compare to other violins you have played?
NATALIE: The thing I like best about playing Barcus-Berry violins is that they're the only electric models I've been able to find that feel and play as comfortable as an acoustic violin. If you have to switch from a traditional acoustic to a Barcus, you don't have to re-adjust your playing or posture at all like you do for most other types of electric violins, it feels the same. Plus, they sound great!

Q: What kind of sound do you need from a violin when you are playing live?
NATALIE: GB Leighton's musical style is somewhere between rock and country, and I have found my Barcus-Berry violin to be the perfect versatile match for this need. It fits right into our Johnny Cash covers, and also melds nicely into our more rockin' tunes. My Barcus-Berry also has a deep, rich tone that is essential for a good, live sound.

Q: What are your overall impressions of Barcus-Berry?
NATALIE: Barcus-Berry has created a fun, great sounding and reliable instrument that I depend on at shows 200+ nights per year - and it looks cool. I'm thrilled with Barcus-Berry!

Q: Do you have any recommendations for those interested in buying a Barcus-Berry violin or pickups?
NATALIE: Whether you're looking for an easy transition from acoustic to electric, or a rockin' performance fiddle, a Barcus-Berry is the way to go.

Q: Do you have any other talents most people don’t know about?
NATALIE: I love singing and songwriting. I play a little bit of guitar, mandolin and piano. I also ride my horse, First Moment, in my spare time.

Q:  How can fans-to-be gain access to your music?
NATALIE: The link to my personal MySpace page is www.myspace.com/nataliemurphymusic. GB Leighton's website is www.gbleighton.com. We are launching a brand new site very soon, so be sure to check back. Then there's always our week-long tour down in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico in January - everyone's invited!

3100 Clamp-On Bridge
The 3100: Clamp-On Bridge Violin Piezo Pickup is designed for violinists who need dependable performance without a permanently installed transducer. This piezo transducer clamps easily to the violin bridge and connects, via cable, to the included 3100P output jack. No holes to drill or tools required. The best of both worlds - ease of use plus wide-band frequency response, excellent string balance, feedback rejection and outstanding signal isolation.

About Barcus-Berry
Tradition of Innovation
Over four decades of innovative leadership are deeply engrained in the history of Barcus-Berry. In 1963, experiments initiated by violinist John Berry and electronics visionary Les Barcus, gave birth to the first ever piezo crystal transducer for musical instruments.

This discovery ultimately led to Barcus-Berry's introduction of several "firsts" in the music industry, such as the first electric violin, the first successful piezo transducers for guitar, piano and concert harp, the first commercially marketed active direct box, the first combination strap button/output jack and the first "under saddle" piezo pickup.

Barcus-Berry has come to offer the best quality in acoustic-electric violins and transducers and preamps for guitars, brass and woodwind instruments, orchestral instruments, pianos and harps. Barcus-Berry products are favored by leading performers such as Jean Jeansonne (Rascal Flatts), Savion Glover (Grammy Award-winning dancer), Brendon Anthony (The Pat Green Band), Downs Thompson (Clay Walker Band), Dan Kelly (Alan Jackson and Faith Hill), David Pichette (Emerson Drive), Terry Hale (George Strait), Ronnie MilsapAndy Garcia (Cinesone All Stars), Tracy Bonham and Daniel Willem.

Today, Barcus-Berry borrows from its illustrious heritage to bring the newest generation of products which allow musicians freedom of expression through true acoustic sound.
