Speaking Hope to the Hurting in Chile

As the nation of Chile continues suffering from the aftermath of Saturday’s massive earthquake, international Christian media ministry TWR was also affected as its partner office there, Radio Trans Mundial (RTM), sustained severe damage.

According to RTM-Chile National Director Sigisfredo Alvarado, “All of those involved in the [RTM] ministry here in Chile are physically well,” he writes in an e-mail from a communication center with electricity, “but the office ended up in a heap of rubble. Part of the roof fell in, and the furniture came tumbling down destroying other things in its path.” Fortunately, no one was inside the building at the time the quake hit. The extent of the damage and what it may cost to repair are still being assessed.

Alvarado indicates that the country continues experiencing aftershocks, as well as significant destruction. “In many places of the country there is no electricity, including Santiago, nor drinkable water nor gas,” he reveals. “The supermarkets are practically empty. There is no food. We have lost complete contact with the directors of the radio stations we work with because there is no telephone connection.”

TWR’s Member Care Radio, in partnership with Dr. Brent Lindquist of Link Care Center, is responding to comfort the people of Chile by distributing a series of radio programs in Spanish for caregivers and survivors of crisis and catastrophe titled “Growth Through Hardship.” These radio programs, based on the Biblica (formerly International Bible Society) book “When Your Whole World Changes,” present a clear Christian context throughout while bearing witness to the love and care of God in the midst of tragedy and devastation. The book will also be distributed as part of an on-the-ground ministry to earthquake victims.

Total cost of translation, production and distribution for this ministry initiative in Chile is $40,000.

Kol HaYeshua Messianic Radio Broadcast

TWR's Hebrew programs are aired on 1350 kilohertz from a one-million watt medium wave (AM) transmitter located in Central Asia. The Kol HaYeshua (Voice of Salvation) Hebrew programs air daily (on Friday in Russian) from 10:00-10:30 p.m. Immediately after Kol HaYeshua (KHY), the Hebrew Thru the Bible (TTB) program is broadcast from 10:30-11:00 p.m. on Sunday - Thursday. KHY and TTB are all produced for TWR by Netivyah in their Jerusalem recording studio. It is believed that these are the only Hebrew gospel programs anywhere on radio.

Joseph, the director of Kol Ha Yeshua, writes:

“With the Lord's blessing and the support of those who are sponsoring the work of Kol Ha Yeshua radio we have reached ten years of ministry with our Hebrew broadcast, which is the only existing channel of its kind for proclaiming the good news of salvation to the Hebrew audience. Let me start our report with a note of gratitude for all involved, in the heavens and on earth.

After this long period of ongoing operation we are attempting to refresh the variety of our producers and the themes of our programs, which have been quite steady along the years. We at Kol HaYeshua consider it a miracle from God that we have this great privilege to preach the Good News to the nation of Israel, and potentially millions of Jews and Arabs can hear us on 1350 AM every night of the week.”

Joseph sees the work of Kol HaYeshua as only the beginning of the potential of what God really wants to do through the use of electronic media in order to reach out to the nation of Israel and not only the nation of Israel but also the more than one million Hebrew speaking Arabs in the whole Middle East.

True Healing

Lying on a hospital bed looking at a newborn baby curled up nearby brings thoughts of joy, mixed with fear to a mom pondering her future relationship with this tiny new person entrusted to her. Sitting on a bench in the waiting area of a hospital a family member feels the heavy weight of concern for their loved one, a patient, wondering what the future holds.

Soon a new mom recovering and a waiting family member in the same hospital will be able to listen to Christian programs over the hospital’s loudspeaker system. TWR’s team in Angola, who already produces excellent Bible teaching radio programs about matters dealing with women’s spiritual and physical health and Christian music, will soon be able to expand their outreach to a hospital in a poor section of Luanda.

TWR-Angola was given permission to install wiring in the hospital for a public address system which will play CDs of popular Christian radio programs such as Project Hannah’s Women of Hope.

Because TWR is committed to ministering to the whole person, patients, friends, family and hospital staff will soon be able to hear about the Great Physician and true healing.

Two fantastic advantages of this brand new concept for our TWR-Africa ministry is first a wholistic approach of caring for the soul as physical needs are being met, and secondly the reuse of already popular radio programs produced by our national staff in Angola.

Praise God for those who have given financial gifts to see this ministry outreach developed in Angola.
