Transformed Lives

For more than 50 years, TWR has been broadcasting God’s truth to the world through mass media. This month’s dedicated Web theme is Transformed Lives, which gives a glimpse as to how God is working through our ministry.

Discover how TWR programs have been a balm on a man from Nepal’s wounded soul, or how one Ukrainian woman’s husband came to know the Lord through them. Meet Ramu, a former pimp from India, and read his incredible testimony. Also, discover how one Angolan woman was delivered from practicing witchcraft. Be sure to listen to and watch the inspiring video, Voices of Grateful Hearts.

TWR President Addresses Global Economic Situation

Like many ministries around the world, TWR has been significantly affected by the current economic downturn.  In a brief videotaped message, TWR President Lauren Libby addresses the situation with candor and insight.

“This is not a time for panic but a time for prudence,” says Libby. “It is also a huge time for prayer! We have been asking God to provide for TWR, and we need to continue to trust Him to provide for the ministry. We have been called to pray and we need to keep doing that. The current economic situation has not caught Him by surprise. We need to ask God to go before us. As He provides, we will continue to minister as strongly as possible.”

Project Hannah Reaches Broadcast Milestone

Here’s a recent blog entry from TWR office rep, Judy Clauss, in which she talks about Project Hannah reaching the 50-language milestone:
My friend and co-laborer, Peggy Corcoran, the international program coordinator for Project Hannah (PH), told me this morning that PH’s Women of Hope (WoH) program went on the air yesterday in Romanian (Romania) and in Berber-Kabyle (Algeria). Amharic (Ethiopia) is scheduled to go on the air April 4. Also, PH’s Women of Hope program in Gujarati (India) is being distributed on CDs as well as over the Internet.
It’s amazing how the Lord has grown this significant Trans World Radio (TWR) ministry known as Project Hannah! Through PH the gospel is transforming the lives of women, who in many parts of the world are at the bottom of the social and economic ladder.
The vision for PH was born in the heart of founder and director, Marli Spieker. The focal point for this ministry is the 30-minute weekly radio program called Women of Hope produced in the language of the region where it airs. Each broadcast includes a “Lessons for Your Life” segment of teaching on such needed subjects as maternal and child care, family life, and hygiene. The “Lessons for Your Soul” segment introduces women to Jesus, the only One who can redeem them and affirm their true worth as daughters of a loving Father.
With the addition of the above new languages, that brings to 53 the total number of languages in which the WoH program is airing. It’s awesome to think of how the Lord is blessing the work of PH and WoH. PH’s prayer ministry has partners in more than 100 countries. The work in Latin America and Asia continues to grow, and Africa is “just exploding” with new PH ministries and potential for more, Marli said recently.
Please join us in prayer for the millions of women still trapped in fear, despair, and spiritual darkness. And pray for wisdom and resources for the PH team as they evaluate the opportunities before them.

Bringing Hope and Healing

Mercy Ships is a global Christian charity which serves the poor in the developing world.  In almost 30 years of operation, the organization has provided thousands of free surgeries and implemented many community development projects in the areas of health, education, water, agriculture and spiritual needs.

In November 2008, TWR’s Bill Damick and Winfred Oppong-Amoako began speaking about a potential partnership with Mercy Ships. This January, discussion began with Mercy Ships as to how a partnership would work. The two organizations decided that TWR would serve as the media arm of Mercy Ships as they moved along the West Coast of Africa. Mercy Ships provides two primary ship- and land-based services. Surgeries are performed onboard the ship, while clinics on the mainland provide consultations. Pre-screening is also done to select suitable candidates for surgery.

The ship, Africa Mercy, is currently docked in Cotonou, Benin, and will remain there for 10 months. Presently, the mission is in the screening stage, but soon doctors will begin performing surgeries. TWR has already done promotions in English, French, Fon, Goun and Yoruba to advertise where the screenings occur.
This month, Oppong-Amoako will attend a meeting in Benin to discuss which public health programs to broadcast. Themes will include disease prevention, treatment in the absence of a clinic, malaria, personal hygiene and family programs.

Three phases of involvement exist: 1)  Promoting the screenings at the clinics. 2) Interviewing the doctors who perform the surgeries and 3) A series of wholistic programs about public health to complement the work being performed in the clinics.

Praise God for the opportunity to partner with Mercy Ships. Pray that the relationship will be fruitful and that people will find both physical and spiritual healing through this collaboration.
