This month’s Web theme is dedicated to our global recruiting efforts, so don’t miss it! View our most urgent staff needs, and meet Anne White, who began her service as a public relations department intern with TWR Europe in 2005. Building on that self-described “amazing, out-of-the-box” experience, she returned two years later to the office in Vienna, Austria, as a long-term missionary to use her PR skills to serve God. Also, be sure to watch the special message from TWR President, Lauren Libby, and read the Q and A with TWR’s dynamic recruiting specialists. Fifty Years of ERF Medien On March 1, 2009, in the year of its 50th anniversary , TWR’s largest European partner organization, ERF Medien, will start broadcasting 24 hours per day via its new combined TV and radio channel, ERF eins (‘ERF one’). ERF has produced and broadcast TV programs ever since commercial TV started in Germany 25 years ago, but never had its own channel. The new channel combines existing programs with new ones. Viewers can enjoy magazine formats, talk shows, documentary programs, movies and children’s programs, all conveying Christian content. Sunday church services will also be broadcast regularly on ERF eins. Music and literary programs, additional talk shows, and special Bible discussion programs will be shown on the new TV channel. Each evening from 7:30-10:00 from March 29 to April 5, the evangelistic event “ProChrist” will be broadcast from eastern Germany’s Chemnitz-Arena throughout Europe. Each night, ERF will supply a special program for its non-German speaking audiences. The Film "Jesus” will be aired nightly between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. in 21 languages, subtitled in German, so that also German-only speakers can follow, and non-German speakers can learn the language. To see ERF’s Web site, visit www.erf.de. (Please note that this site is in German.) A New Creation Recent upheaval in Madagascar has led to violent protests in the capital city of Antananarivo. The Red Cross estimates that more than 100 people have been killed and almost 350 people injured during protests and ensuing riots. But in another part of the country, less than 50 kilometers from this turmoil, God has been at work, changing a life. In October 2008, TWR’s James Burnett and Joe Fort went to Madagascar to evaluate the Malagasy Thru The Bible ministry and visit the program producer, Pastor Richard Ravelomanantsoa. About 40 kilometers from Antananarivo, they met Oliviere, a Christian who began listening to the program about three years ago. Oliviere shared that after a year he decided to travel to the city to find Pastor Richard. At their first meeting, Oliviere committed his life to the Lord. “My family saw a big change in me,” he said. “I was brutal before; now I am very humble. I have been set free.” Oliviere tried to start a small church in his community, but the people are still very involved in their traditional practice of ancestor worship. Oliviere has not given up, however; he still talks to his neighbors about Jesus and hopes that they will see that God is working in his life. His family is poor but he is still joyful. “My children are happy at school, we are healthy and we have the strength to face life.” Praise God for the way that He used the Thru the Bible program in Oliviere’s life and for the joy that Oliviere is able to find in Him. Pray for more men like Oliviere to accept Christ as their Savior and share the gospel in their communities. Pray also for a peaceful resolution to the political unrest. Quick Links |
