We Need You!
There are several opportunities to get involved this fall. Immediately, we have these requests for volunteers:
1) Mike Bevers is looking for someone to  take Rick Borries’ student for the remainder of the school year in the Rotary Mentoring Program. She is Jessica Durkin, a student at USI. Please contact Mike Bevers ASAP if interested at 812-424-8284 .
2) The Financial Literacy Committee is seeking Rotarians to help create a Financial Literacy curriculum for Middle School students and eventually high school students. Specifically, Rotarians with experience in PowerPoint and/or in creating lesson plans, who have a creative edge, and who can help make the curriculum fun and interesting for middle school age children. This is not one person, but will require a few of our talented members. Please contact Tim Bray for more information at 800-264-0326   Ext. 201.
3) Junior Achievement of Southwestern Indiana needs volunteers for it's 8th annual job shadow event. The event will take place Friday, February 19, 2010 and will run from approximately 8:15am to noon. Please contact Theo Boots for more information.

Condolences
Sincerest sympathy is extended to Barbara Borries and family on the unexpected death of Richard "Rick" Borries on November 14th. Memorial contributions may be made to the Rotary Foundation of Evansville.

New Member Proposal
Samantha Fulkerson, Accountant (Kemper CPA Group, LLP), is being proposed for Rotary membership by Harry Lukens. Samantha’s classification would be Auditing Services. Anyone objecting to the proposal should contact the Membership Committee.

Rotary Holiday Luncheon
The Rotary “Holiday Reflections" Luncheon is December 8, at Casino Aztar Conference Center, Walnut Rooms. The luncheon is included in our Club dues for regular active Rotarians. Senior Actives are $12 – the regular price of the weekly luncheon. All other guests including spouses, other Rotarians and Rotaract are twenty ($20) dollars. Santa will be there and the children of Hebron Elementary School Choir will offer their voices as our special entertainment this year. Everyone is asked to bring a wrapped gift appropriate for a child. Please mark with the designation of girl or boy and the age. Cash is also very acceptable. Reservations for the luncheon will start soon.  The event will begin at with the “Tom and Jerry” social time followed by the luncheon beginning at noon.

Welcome
Gerald “Jerry” Hashman, Marketing Representative, NuYale Dry Cleaners, was inducted as a new Rotarian by Carter Clarke. Jerry’s classification is Dry Cleaning. Matt Volkman then introduced Angelo Frieri, Insurance Agent, Indiana Farm Bureau, as the newest Rotarian. Angelo’s classification is Insurance. Welcome Jerry and Angelo!

Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign
Rotary’s day to participate in the Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign (Bell Ringing) is Saturday, December 12. The locations are the three Wal-Marts – Wal-Mart East, Wal–Mart West and Wal-Mart Newburgh. Byron Cooper has the sign-up sheets available at the back table at the Coliseum. Give an hour or two to help those in need.

Yucatan Project

YUCATAN UPDATE:  While there is an on-going need for financial assistance on this project, there are also material needs at this time. There is a need for commercial dryers, wheel chairs and walkers. You will never get more impact for your charitable dollar than you will on this project.  Please keep the contributions coming.  Four of our members have given $2,500.  Our goal is 15 of our members giving $2,500. Your donations are needed to support the Yucatan Project! Checks for the Yucatan Project should be made payable to the “Rotary Foundation of Evansville” on the memo line state “Yucatan Project” and mail to the Rotary office. 

Monetary Donations Needed!
600 POLIO CASES FIRST SIX MONTHS OF 2009  A total of 600 polio cases have been reported for the first six months of 2009 compared to 1652 cases for all of 2008.  The four endemic countries are Nigeria (321 cases), India (89), Pakistan (20), and Afghanistan (10).The numbers are going down, but much work needs to be done before polio is eradicated.  Human ignorance continues to be a very formidable foe. The Rotary clubs in the United States have raised 90 million dollars out of a goal of 200 million.  If you wish to contribute to this ambitious and noble effort to eradicate polio please make out a check to "The Rotary Foundation" and mark "Polio" in the lower left hand corner and mail to the Rotary office.

Centennial Society
In celebration of our 100th birthday as a Rotary Club, we are encouraging Rotarians to pledge at least $500 per year to the Rotary Foundation of Evansville, Inc., for each of the next five years. This represents a $2500 commitment over five years to our local foundation. Second, consider becoming a member of the Rotary Foundation of Evansville, Inc.’s Legacy League. The Legacy League is comprised of individuals who have included the Rotary Foundation of Evansville, Inc. in their estate planning. Third, contribute annually to the Rotary Foundation of Evansville, Inc. In 2008 half of our members contributed to this fund. We encourage all of our members to financially support our local foundation so that we might continue to increase the impact that our Club makes through service in our community.

The Rotary Club of Evansville has a new website. Please take time to visit it at www.EvansvilleRotary.com. The new site features an online directory for members. If you have an email address on file with the club, you should have already received your username and password. Please do not register as a new member at the site since all current Rotary Members have already been set up with an account. With your username and password (sent to you in an email), you will be able to log in and create your online profile.
