Rotary Club of Evansville
We Need You!
There are several opportunities to get involved this fall. Immediately, we have these requests for volunteers:
1) The Financial Literacy Committee is seeking Rotarians to help create a Financial Literacy curriculum for Middle School students and eventually high school students. Specifically, Rotarians with experience in PowerPoint and/or in creating lesson plans, who have a creative edge, and who can help make the curriculum fun and interesting for middle school age children. This is not one person, but will require a few of our talented members. Please contact Tim Bray for more information at 800-264-0326 Ext. 201.
2) Junior Achievement of Southwestern Indiana needs volunteers for it's 8th annual job shadow event. The event will take place Friday, February 19, 2010 and will run from approximately 8:15am to noon. Please contact Theo Boots for more information.
3) Rotarian Janie Chappell is looking for a coordinator for the private & parochial schools. If you are interested, please contact Janie Chappell for more details.

Welcome
Tonya Borders introduced Brian Baker, Director of Development/Advancement, Oakland City University, as a new Rotarian. Brian’s classification is Education. Welcome Brian!

New Member Proposal
Matt Volkman has proposed Angelo Frieri, Insurance Agent for Indiana Farm Bureau, as a new Rotary member. Angelo’s classification would be Insurance. Anyone objecting to the proposal should contact the Membership Committee.

Rotary Holiday Luncheon
From the Holiday Luncheon Committee: As a part of our program for the Rotary Holiday Luncheon on December 8, at Casino Aztar, your committee will have some of the members reflect on a favorite holiday story or memory.  We would like to ask our members to add a personal touch and this is a way to do it.  Please mail or email Christy at the Rotary office by Friday, November 6.  We know there are some great holiday stories out there, so let's share them!

Thank You
To: Pam Martin for the diverse, educational and interesting October programs. Lois Duncan and her committee for their work with GAGE to provide the Multi-Cultural Fest on October 23. To Cathy Sickman Renner for chairing the Reading Rotarian Program again this year and for all of those who contributed their time to read: Charlie Kelly, Harry Lukens, Ron Huffman, Abbey Foroughi, Janie Chappell, Byron Cooper, Jack Van Stone, Mark Miller, Amy Walker, Garey Patmore, Tim Bray, Tom Ancona, Marilee Fowler Patmore, Tiffany Wynn, Mike Bevers, Carter Clarke, John Wolk, Jan Meeks, Judy Freson, Phil Fisher, Derrick Stewart, Dr. Ray Arensman, Brian Carroll, Judy Rueger, Ken Schreiber, Bonnie Grafton, Mary Arnold, Ryan Scheidler, Andrew Alexander, Marylinn Thomlinson, Jim Butterfield, Tonya Borders, Geoff Gentil, Ruthie Shekell, Barbara Williams, Phil Lieberman, Mark Schweickart, Joan David, Jeffrey Berger, Bill Clark, Donna Leader, and Mrs. Ray Nicholson.

November Board Meeting
The November Board of Directors meeting will be Tuesday, November 3, instead of November 10. It will begin promptly at 10:45 AM in the G.A.R. room at the Coliseum. All Board members are requested to attend. If you cannot attend, please contact President Marilee Fowler Patmore.

Echoes and Reflections
For those who requested the link for Echoes and Reflections from our speakers, Deborah Batiste and Dr. Alan Rosen, on Tuesday, October 20th, it is as follows: www.cypressevansville.org.

South Pacific Rescue
As an individual Rotarian, if you are interested in assisting with the South Seas Rescue, the link follows. The Club will not be participating as a group due prior commitments. As with all disasters, nearly everything imaginable is needed, but developing potable drinking water from all non-potable resources will have the biggest life-saving affect. Waterborne illness is always a concern following a disaster. A solution to not only the short-term needs, but also the solution to the emergency water needs of future disasters. The South Pacific Rescue Response Plan can be found at:  www.projectsupportcenter.org/SOPACIFICRESCUE.htm.

Congratulations
Robert A. “Bob” Clark will be relocating to Banger, Maine to assume the Presidency of Hudson University. Congratulations Bob.

Thoughts and Prayers
Please continue to keep all Rotarians and their families in your thoughts and prayers. Lois Duncan’s husband, Roger, had emergency surgery and Cathy Sickman Renner’s mother had a heart attack.

Yucatan Project
Information from John Whinrey
YUCATAN UPDATE:
While there is an on-going need for financial assistance on this project, there are also material needs at this time. There is a need for commercial dryers, wheel chairs and walkers. You will never get more impact for your charitable dollar than you will on this project.  Please keep the contributions coming.  Four of our members have given $2,500.  Our goal is 15 of our members giving $2,500. Your donations are needed to support the Yucatan Project! Checks for the Yucatan Project should be made payable to the “Rotary Foundation of Evansville” on the memo line state “Yucatan Project” and mail to the Rotary office.

Monetary Donations Needed!
600 POLIO CASES FIRST SIX MONTHS OF 2009  A total of 600 polio cases have been reported for the first six months of 2009 compared to 1652 cases for all of 2008.  The four endemic countries are Nigeria (321 cases), India (89), Pakistan (20), and Afghanistan (10).The numbers are going down, but much work needs to be done before polio is eradicated.  Human ignorance continues to be a very formidable foe. The Rotary clubs in the United States have raised 90 million dollars out of a goal of 200 million.  If you wish to contribute to this ambitious and noble effort to eradicate polio please make out a check to "The Rotary Foundation" and mark "Polio" in the lower left hand corner and mail to the Rotary office.

Centennial Society
In celebration of our 100th birthday as a Rotary Club, we are encouraging Rotarians to pledge at least $500 per year to the Rotary Foundation of Evansville, Inc., for each of the next five years. This represents a $2500 commitment over five years to our local foundation. Second, consider becoming a member of the Rotary Foundation of Evansville, Inc.’s Legacy League. The Legacy League is comprised of individuals who have included the Rotary Foundation of Evansville, Inc. in their estate planning. Third, contribute annually to the Rotary Foundation of Evansville, Inc. In 2008 half of our members contributed to this fund. We encourage all of our members to financially support our local foundation so that we might continue to increase the impact that our Club makes through service in our community.
