Rotary ShelterBoxes for Haiti President Marilee Fowler Patmore asked Rotarians at last Tuesday’s meeting to donate money to go towards a Shelterbox for Haiti victims. Shelterbox details may be found at www.shelterboxusa.org. The Club raised $3,434 in just 5 minutes at Tuesday’s meeting! The response was overwhelming! If you would like to contribute towards the purchase of one of these Shelterboxes, please mail a check to the Rotary Foundation of Evansville, PO Box 1131, Evansville, IN 47706 and note “Haiti” on the memo line.
A special note from Marilee: “Upon leaving Rotary today, I am overwhelmed with gratitude from all of you that contributed so generously to need of the homeless people of Haiti. It is amazing that we can raise $4,000 in 5 minutes! You have confirmed in me the true meaning of Rotary….”Serve above Self.” My year as Rotary president takes on a whole new meaning thanks to you! I would like to extend the opportunity for those fellow Rotarians that weren’t at the meeting to participate. Please let Christy or me know what you will donate. Checks should be made payable to the “Rotary Club of Evansville Foundation.” If you have family and friends that would be interested in this project, they too can write a check to our Foundation.”
Many others expressed their thanks and enthusiasm about our great club: “Marilee, that is wonderful news!! Thanks, so much, to your club for their response to this tragedy.” Bettye Durham, District Governor “OUTSTANDING! Our congratulations to the great members in Evansville! That is awesome!” Jim McFaul, President Jasper Rotary Club “This is wonderful on so many levels, first for the Haitians; and second for a concrete example of how Rotary gets involved when most needed!” Yvonne Oliger, District Secretary “I should think you WOULD be excited! And we're just excited for knowing about you and living in the same district--feeling confident that other clubs are having similar responses!” Jerry Fox, District Task Force/Resources Group

Monetary Donations Needed! 600 POLIO CASES FIRST SIX MONTHS OF 2009 A total of 600 polio cases have been reported for the first six months of 2009 compared to 1652 cases for all of 2008. The four endemic countries are Nigeria (321 cases), India (89), Pakistan (20), and Afghanistan (10).The numbers are going down, but much work needs to be done before polio is eradicated. Human ignorance continues to be a very formidable foe. The Rotary clubs in the United States have raised 90 million dollars out of a goal of 200 million. If you wish to contribute to this ambitious and noble effort to eradicate polio please make out a check to "The Rotary Foundation" and mark "Polio" in the lower left hand corner and mail to the Rotary office.
Centennial Society In celebration of our 100th birthday as a Rotary Club, we are encouraging Rotarians to pledge at least $500 per year to the Rotary Foundation of Evansville, Inc., for each of the next five years. This represents a $2500 commitment over five years to our local foundation. Second, consider becoming a member of the Rotary Foundation of Evansville, Inc.’s Legacy League. The Legacy League is comprised of individuals who have included the Rotary Foundation of Evansville, Inc. in their estate planning. Third, contribute annually to the Rotary Foundation of Evansville, Inc. In 2008 half of our members contributed to this fund. We encourage all of our members to financially support our local foundation so that we might continue to increase the impact that our Club makes through service in our community.
