CONGRATULATIONS TO SR. DISTRICT PARTICIPANTS
Congratulations to the following Ipswich High School students who successfully auditioned for the Massachusetts Music Educators Association (MMEA) Senior District Music Festival. These participants competed against students from 69 high schools in MMEA's Northeastern Region for spots in the festival orchestra, band, jazz band, and chorus. The three-day festival culminated in a performance on Saturday, January 9th at Lowell High School. These talented students are: Catherine Benjamin, chorus Rachel Benjamin, band Elizabeth Brown, band Rachael Comunale, orchestra Emily Glaubitz, orchestra Ryder Hambley, orchestra Katherine Johnson, band Maria Longo, chorus Kari-Lyn Mayne, chorus Molly Murphy, orchestra Matthew Nardone, jazz band Elias Natti, orchestra Evan Plunkett, chorus Spencer Plunkett, chorus James Ross, band Ian Stewart jazz band
In addition to these students, many of the Ipswich music faculty were involved in the festival. They volunteer their time to serve in these capacities. Laurie Fabiszewski Colitti served as Concert Coordinator. Gerald J. Dolan, Jr. conducted the Northeastern Sr. District Concert band. Jeffrey Patch served as accompanist to the Sr. District Chorus.
 

We began January with the Ipswich Middle School Art Show and Reception and the month continues with a variety of arts events.
January 20 — IHS Visual Arts Exhibition & Reception

Students who took Visual Arts courses during the first semester show their work. Where: IPAC Lobby Gallery When: Wednesday, Jan. 20 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm
January 22 — Jake Armeding & Northern Lights

IHS alumnus, Jake Armeding, and the Northern Lights bluegrass band performs a concert to benefit Tiger Tots Day Care. Where: IPAC When: Friday, January 22 at 8:00 pm; Doors open at 7:30 pm Admission fee: $20 available at Zumi's Espresso & Ice Cream, Office Store, Conley's Drugs, and the IMS office.
January 31 -- Tri-M presents Carnival of the Animals The High School Symphony Orchestra performs Camille Saint-Saëns Carnival of the Animals along with other young people's favorites. International Music Honor Society (Tri-M) students will host this fundraiser which also includes animal mask-making and an instrument petting zoo. Where: IPAC When: 1:00 to 3:00 pm Admission fee

Here's what is coming up — February is the month for theatrical performances!
 February 5, 6 & 7 -- Pirates of Penzance The Ipswich Middle School produces the Gilbert & Sullivan classic as its annual musical. February 27 -- High School Drama Festival Ipswich High School hosts the Massachusetts High School Drama Guild Preliminary Competition Festival. The Company of IHS presents its competition one-act play, His Black Door, along with seven other one-acts from area high schools. Where: IPAC When: 8:45 am to 6:15 pm. Shows begin at 9:00 am and run throughout the day. Admission fee: $10 at the door admits you to any or all plays. For more info: 978-356-3137 x138

IMADA's annual Art for the Arts show and sale will be held Saturday, April 10. All community artists are invited to submit their work. For more information go to 'Learn More' to contact Steve Veiga. Learn More The IMADA Program Book is published annually in time for the December concerts and arts events. The book highlights the Ipswich Schools' arts curriculum, faculty, and students who participate in the various arts programs. Filled with photos and artwork, the book chronicles IMS and IHS student achievements in the arts. It is produced entirely by volunteers and the printing is subsidized by the sponsors who take out advertisements. This year's book net IMADA $4,400. If you did not receive a copy, stop by the Ipswich High School Fine Arts Office and pick one up!
