Our Recent Gifts IMADA voted to approve four grants to the Ipswich Middle and High Schools department of fine arts at our February meeting.
• A gift of $500 was given to the High School Visual Arts Department to bring visiting artist, Lauren Holmgren, to the sculpture class for one week of instruction in the sculpture molding process. Lauren Holmgren's Sculpture Mold • A gift of $962.50 was given to the High School Music Department to fund half the cost of sending seven students to the MMEA All-State Music Festival where they will spend three days with their peers from other schools culminating in a concert at Boston's Symphony Hall. • The members approved moving $2,000 of free cash to IMADA's instrument purchase fund. Together with the profits from the Ryan Montbleau Concert, and the $2,000 grant from the Invest in People Foundation, IMADA now has $6,500 available for instrument purchases at the middle and high schools. • A gift of $150 was given to the Middle School Visual Arts Department to hire a Chinese interpreter. The interpreter enabled art faculty member, Virginia Eaton, to spend the day co-teaching with the Chinese art teacher who was visiting the middle school along with the rest of the Chinese Middle School exchange program. Here is what Ms. Eaton had to say about her day: Dear IMADA Family, Wow -- What a day!! Because of you, through the interpreter you funded, I was able to discuss for eight hours complex and profound world-wide visual art philosophies and practices with my Chinese (colleague), 'Miss Sue.' Every one of the students in my classes realized what a special experience it was, and we all made the very most of this teachable moment. We are richer and wiser because of it. It will also go down in my personal history as one of the most extraordinary days of my professional career. Thank you for your remarkable and generous support.
