JETAASC Announcements
- January Re-cap
Thanks to everyone who attended our shinenkai, JETAASC brought in 2010 in high spirits with great company and heartwarming & natsukashii shabu shabu. A very special and BIG thanks to Mr. Sonoda and Ms. Nishida of CLAIR NY for coming all the way from New York to attend our shinenkai. We had a fabulous time welcoming in the new year over a hot nabe with everyone and had a fantastic turnout: 49 attendees for dinner. We even got our CLAIR NY VIPs to come out for two hours of karaoke with other JETAASC alums & friends.
If you guys have any great shinenkai photos, please share them with us on the jetaasc.org website: - Santa Barbara Sub-Chapter Kick-off Dinner
Who knew that bowling was so popular in Santa Barbara? Judith and Kurtis want to thank local food expert Rob and SB rep Erin Masuda for introducing us to a great Japanese restaurant along 101. We had a great time, enjoyed the food, and look forward to other events in Ventura County. If you're up the coast from Los Angeles, and want to be involved in events in that area, help grow the sub-chapter by emailing Erin at sbrep@jetaasc.org. - JETAA Regional Technology Conference
A huge otsukare-sama to the Portland Chapter of JETAA for putting on an outstanding conference on using technologies to help keep our chapters going. Eight U.S. chapters met with three Canadian chapters in Portland on January 29th-31st. Our webmaster, Jason Porath, as one of the principal drivers behind the conference, presented a demo of our website as a model for JETAA internationally. If you haven't checked out all of its features, be sure to take a look. The results of the conference will be presented at the national conference in New York in August to help chapters nationwide keep their members informed through their websites, social media and mailing lists. So look for continuing improvements to our website, jetaasc.org, and Facebook group, which is open for you to join: JETAASC - JET Alumni of Southern California (and Arizona) - YOU on jetaasc.org -- Photo Uploading and Facebook!
One of those improvements you can see on our website now! Of course you knew about photos on our Facebook group's page, (right?) but now you can share your view and upload your photos from events to our website, by going to the "Photos" menu at the top of our website, and selecting "Upload". Just be sure to downsize those 12 megapixel shots of yours to sane-sized images first! :)
But wait, you say! I don't see any "Upload" option -- that's because you aren't logged in. "Ah man," you reply, "I forgot my username and password, cause I never log in." Well, good news, you don't have to anymore! Now you can connect your Facebook login to your account, and use your Facebook credentials to log in. To do that, however, you need to log in normally ONCE (email webmaster@jetaasc.org if you can't figure out your username/password), and click "Connect with Facebook." Once the accounts are linked, you're golden, and all you need to remember is your Facebook login! Those are just two of our newest features, but there's plenty more to come! Another big otsukare-sama to Jason for developing this feature that we hope will help make interacting with our website more enjoyable. Check out the great photos of our recent events while you're there.

- Enka singer Jero in concert
As the first African American enka singer in the history of Japanese music, Jerome Charles White, Jr. aka Jero has single-handedly reignited interest in the musical ballads that emerged in Japan's postwar era. Looking like a hip-hop star, with the voice of an angel, he has redefined the Soul of Japan. Jero was named the best new performer of 2008, appearing on the New Year's Eve songfest extravaganza "Kohaku." Dedicating his song to his ailing grandmother, audience members agreed that Jero best exemplified the show's theme of "creating bonds between people through the power of music." Tickets on sale to the public February 1st! Price: $100/$80/$60/$50 For tickets, call (213) 680-3700 Japanese Tutor NeededImagescholar is currently seeking a qualified tutor to work with a high school student once a week.
