With the transition from Hearing International Japan sponsorship of the Newsletter, the Executive Board decided to go to an on-line format for distribution of the communication. While this sounds like a wise move for the Society, it has been more difficult to accomplish than I had hoped. Obtaining membership e-mails and verifying their accuracy has required a significant effort. This current Newsletter is going out to members of the Society and to others who have indicated an interest in fostering hearing health care in developing countries. We hope to bring you news of the Hearing International Centers, their out reach programs, courses, meetings and other events. For this to be a success, each Center must contribute to the communication. We are happy to advertise your courses and Center activities on our website, as well as in the Newsletter.
For those of you receiving this newsletter that are not members, we hope that you will enjoy learing about Hearing International and perhaps join us in our global initiatives. Combining our efforts will speed us toward accomplishing our goal of Hearing for All. In future newsletters, we will describe the history of the society and outline our established goals. You may obtain more information from any of the Centers, or by e-mailing me. If you know of others potentially interested, please send me their e-mail addresses.
The editor wishes to acknowledge the work of Hearing International Japan, and in particular, the efforts of Dr. Yoshiaki Nakai for the many years of support rendered to the Society in producing the newsletter. Today’s on-line communication greatly enhances the ability of the group to interact and to obtain immediate feedback. Our new website, hosted by the Marion Downs Hearing Center in Denver, Colorado, offers the potential for finding out about our society’s history, advertisements for continuing education activites, international meetings and learn new techiques that have helped our individual centers. Please visit us and offer suggestions as to what you would like to see. This is an on-going work in progress and the next few months will add pertinent new information.

Since HI Japan has stop their commitments to continue the quarterly HI newsletter, during the HI annual meeting in Hong Kong 2008 the Executive Committee decided that HI should move to an electronic newsletter linked to our own WEBSIDE. Professor Herman Jenkins agreed to act as Chief Editor and to further develop a website that would be interactive for the group. His agreement was accepted with a big applause and each and every one of us thank him for his offer.
As an Executive Committee, we request that HI members, as individual or Centers, participate actively and send us news of your activities and progress. Please forward these reports to the Editor, Herman Jenkins, so we all will be aware what has been happening in your area or Country
