Pastor’s Corner

At the beginning of Lent on Ash Wednesday, we gathered in the sanctuary for our evening worship service.  We heard, both in the words of Scripture and in those traditional Lenten prayers, stark reminders of human frailty and weakness, reminders of our mortality and our utter dependence on God.  This holy season is a time to focus more intentionally on our spiritual lives. 

That's why I've been so pleased to see how many people are involved in our March to Holy Week small groups this year.  In studying portions of Richard Foster's book Celebration of Discipline together, we are being reminded of spiritual practices that assist us in drawing closer to God, such as prayer, fasting, solitude, and worship.  Each week, those participating have been encouraged and challenged to engage in a concrete activity related to that week's topic, culminating with everyone coming together to worship on Good Friday.  I hope and pray that these small group meetings will help us to deepen our faith.

Holy Week is coming, and at its conclusion, a grand celebration of new life and new beginnings.  As we stand together in these challenging days, never forget that we are people of the Resurrection.
