WPC’S NEW NEWSLETTER! Thanks to Joe Roberts (for setting up the program) and Dorothy Longbrake (who is collecting and formatting articles), we are once again able to publish our WPC newsletter, only now it’s in an electronic format (we'll also be able to print up hard copies and make them available to pick up at church). If you have articles or digital pictures to share with the congregation, please e-mail them to Dorothy at (wallpcnews@gmail.com). 2009 Alternative Gift Fair The 2009 Alternative Gift Fair was a resounding success for all involved. The event lasted about one hour, and the total amount raised for all organizations was over $2600.
Whether it was support for homeless women, children with disabilities, health care providers for homeless youth, international development, or WPC youth and children’s programming, our church’s commitment to mission came through loud and clear!
In this season of advent, I find it especially heartening to think that our little church has so powerfully affirmed its commitment to those in need, both locally and internationally, as well as demonstrated for the kids in our church just how much we love and support them. CHRISTMAS EVE SERVICE OF LESSONS AND CAROLS Join us for our traditional service of Lessons and Carols at 7 pm on December 24th. (Childcare will be provided for the littlest ones downstairs in the nursery.) MARCH TO HOLY WEEK 2009 Please mark your calendars for a special event WPC will be holding next Lent, when you will be invited to participate in a 4-week small group session called “March to Holy Week.” Small groups will be meeting at various times during the week (morning, noon, and evenings) in the month of March to study selected sections of Richard Foster’s book Celebration of Discipline. Study guides will be made available so that each small group will be studying the same material each week. “March to Holy Week” will culminate with everyone gathering at WPC for worship on Good Friday, April 2, in preparation for celebrating Easter three days later. All of our Session members and Deacons plan to participate in our "March to Holy Week" this year, and we encourage you to join us. We are looking for one or two more volunteers to help lead an evening small group. If you can help, please let Ken Sunoo know.
KOREAN GLORY PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH Beginning on December 15, 2009, WPC began sharing our building with the Korean Glory Presbyterian Church, a small church that had been meeting at the Seattle Presbytery office on Beacon Hill. They have wanted to move north to be closer to more of their members, and we are glad to be able to partner wi th them in ministry. Their pastor is the Rev. Byeung Kyu Kim, and they will be worshiping on Sunday afternoons starting at 1:00 pm beginning December 20. They will also be meeting on Wednesday and Saturday evenings, as well as gathering each day for their early morning prayer service at 6:00 am. We plan to have a number of joint worship services and activities during the year. When you see members of Korean Glory PC, please give them a warm welcome. WELCOME ASPIRE GIRLS Another group that has started to use our building is The Aspire Girls. Aspire Girls of the Puget Sound area is a new, volunteer-run group for girls with Asperger's Syndrome, High-Functioning Autism or related social skills challenges. The girls will be making friends, engaging in some fun, planned activities and enjoying a healthy snack, while parents will have the opportunity to meet in an adjoining room. Aspire Girls is currently oriented toward elementary and middle-school ages. The girls will be learning leadership and community building skills. They will normally meet the first and third Saturdays of the month. |
