Dear friend,
Sorry to email twice in a week, but there are couple of events I’m attending this weekend that I thought you might be interested in.
Tooting really does have wonderful community spirit – nowhere else can match it – so if you’re short of something to do this weekend get involved.
The Balham and Tooting Community Association are holding a five aside football tournament on Saturday afternoon from 1pm – 4pm on Furzedown Recreation Ground (Ramsdale Road, SW17 9BP), in partnership with Chelsea FC community football coaches. Come along and cheer the teams on! There’ll also be some great opportunities to learn more about what's on offer for young people in the area, including information on sport, leisure and training, healthy living, community safety and the environment. Connexxions, Wandsworth PCT(NHS) and the Met Police will be among the groups bringing stalls and displays.
In the evening I’m taking my kids to three different events. The first, Love Earlsfield, is a community meal being held at Earlsfield Baptist Church (Magdalen Road, SW18), raising money for the excellent youth projects at St John the Divine Church. It’s looking like it will be an excellent evening (my girls are looking forward to the magician and face painting!) and it will be raising money for a really worthy cause. If you’d like to attend please contact Johnny@groundworksonline.com or call 07970159090. Tickets are £10 for adults, £8 for pensioners and unwaged and £3 for children.
After that I’m heading off to two separate Diwali celebrations, one at the Samaj Hall and the other at the Khalsa Centre, both on Upper Tooting Road. Do come along and join us, I’m told the fireworks at the Khalsa Centre will be amazing – these should be around 7.30pm.
Until next time.
Best wishes,
Sadiq
