After months of anticipation, the Atlanta Roller Girls rolled out their newest secret weapons! The annual Debutante Brawl, which took place January 24th at Smith’s Olde Bar, marked the debut of twelve of Atlanta’s newest derby girls. Each home team welcomed two new girls, each as tough, sassy, and talented as the next. The Sake Tuyas secured Layla Beatdown and Ice Sickle, the Toxic Shocks greeted Dottie Darko and Mad Libby, the Apocalypstix gained Aeon Flex and PBRawr, and the Denim Demons welcomed Totalitiffian and Hate Ashbury. Keep your eyes on the rookie Free Agents—EndHer Game, Polly Atomic, Hit n’ Rhonda, and Michelle T—who are waiting for the right moment to come out swinging. To put a cherry on top, Robo Pop, starring Atlanta Roller Girl Cherry Blox’em, performed killer 80’s cover songs to a very eager crowd. The girls want to thank all the fans, family, friends, and sponsors who joined us at the Debutante Brawl to celebrate our new 2010 lineup! If you missed the Brawl, come meet the new girls and check out the surprising new line-ups at our first game of the season on March 13th.
Come out and join us at the St. Patrick’s Day Parade on March 13th. Sure, it’s the day of our first home bout, but the Atlanta Roller Girls wouldn’t miss this downtown party!
Catch some of our ladies donning green on the route down Peachtree Street and join us at the post-parade festival at Underground Atlanta. We’ll be rolling through, handing out goodies, and entertaining the crowds. Then come to the Shriners and see us compete!
If you missed this weekend, you were probably in tears at home wondering what in the world possessed you to pass up such an amazing opportunity. Unfortunately, the first bout of 2010 took a toll on Atlanta’s A and B teams. There was a well-fought battle from the Rumble Bs against Nashville’s Brawl Stars and the Dirty South Derby Girls took on the Nashville Rollergirls All-Stars. Though both ended in defeat, they were a great start to the hard-hitting 2010 season to come.
The next day was an exciting win for the Dirty South Derby Girls as they took on the Derby City Rollergirls from Kentucky. They set a new team record with the 282-5 score. Things are looking up, and with a taste for blood, your Atlanta All Star team has the hunger for their next win. So make sure you catch them at their first home game in March!

Atlanta Roller Girls are hitting the road for some more pre-season action at the March 6th and 7th Clover Cup tournament in Dallas, Texas. Skating against the Dallas Derby Devils, Houston Roller Derby, No Coast Derby Girls, and Tampa Bay Derby Darlins, our Dirty South girls will be warming up for some serious brutality when they return for the first home bout on March 13th.

Ever wonder how the jammer scores points? Here’s the low down: The first time through, the Jammers sprint, jump, and juke to beat each other through the pack to become the “Lead Jammer” (more on that next month). Jammers don’t score on the first pass. After the successful completion of her first pass, a Jammer can score points on each additional pass through the pack. A Jammer DOES NOT have to be Lead to score points. Jammers receive points for each opposing blocker in the pack they pass legally.
And now you know! |
