One way to save time is to minimize the amount of clutter you have to go through to find what you need to finish a task.  An idea I've used to help in de-cluttering a room or space is the 3 boxes trick.  Whenever you de-clutter a space have 3 boxes available.  Box 1 is "Trash".  Box 2 is "Give away".  Box 3 is "Items that belong somewhere else."  The real trick to this is Box 3.  People have a tendency to move an item to the correct location immediately and then they get distracted.  This way, you can stay focused on the spot you are currently de-cluttering and take care of moving items to their correct locations later.
