"Decluttering - one drawer at a time"
Continuing the theme of de-cluttering from last month, here's another trick to help you de-clutter a room. If you keep looking into a room and thinking "I've got to get rid of the junk in this room," here's a technique I started using a few years ago. When I decide to de-clutter a room I first make a list of the room drawer by drawer and shelf by shelf. For example,
*closet-top shelf,
*closet-middle shelf,
*closet-bottom shelf,
*left desk drawer,
*right desk drawer
*top of desk,
*...
Once or twice a week, I look at my list and pick one area on the list and just de-clutter that area. It is much easier to get started when I think, "I'll just get rid of the stuff in that left drawer today." And I often find that I'll move on to a second drawer because the first one didn't actually take that long to do. And of course, once I'm done I have the satisfaction of crossing one or two drawers off my list! I managed to de-clutter every room in my house over the course of a year using this technique. Try it yourself!
