Oct/Nov Issue The funny thing about opinions is that everyone has one, and they are usually different. Consequently, to really understand any issue, people need to hear a variety of perspectives. On the topic of aging and American’s obsession with youth and beauty, we spoke to someone who experiences this every day as part of his profession – not as a woman who is aging, but as a man who helps women look younger.
Featured Character Meet Dr. Charles Lee, Plastic Surgeon in San Francisco, CA. Plastic surgery “is not just about the nip and tuck that we hear about and see on TV, it’s about making lives better…” say’s Dr. Lee. He has committed his life to providing a variety of plastic surgeries, including reconstructive and age-related cosmetic surgeries. And although he admits that marketers exploit our culture’s desire to be young and sexy, he also explains that it gives him “great satisfaction to help women feel confident, youthful and energized.” In the full interview, he also discusses differences between men and women and plastic surgery, and the current trend of younger and younger women having age-related cosmetic surgery. Interestingly enough, even though the ratio of women to men is 80/20, more and more men are coming into his office for age-related procedures.

Milestones
The team shot Sheila Malkind, 71-year old activist and Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Charles Lee.
The Older Women’s League (OWL) screened the 5-minute clip as the opening for their annual conference.
Both the 5-minute documentary clip and cable television clip have been published on the OWL web site and are now visible to thousands of viewers.
Upcoming Plans The team is now 80% done with the shooting for this documentary. The focus over the next two months will be to review all 16 hours of footage, revisit and reshape the storyline, recruit an intern and raise enough money to hire a storyline editor.
