Many people refer to middle-aged men as "distinguished", and those single ones are called "play boys".  You know it's true!  -While several of the middle-aged women we spoke to, say that "when women hit their 40's, they start feeling invisible...People stop paying attention to you in restaurants, in retail stores, and on the street."  Why is there such a difference between men and women?  Is it possible that because women are often seen as sexual objects, they lose their value when they are no longer able to bare children?  -And if so, where do these societal messages come from?

Featured Character
For over 20 years, Sheila Malkind, a 70-something, San Francisco resident and activist, has been cutting out advertisements that depict women in sexually degrading ways.  Her response to these ads is that they're unacceptable, and that's exactly what she has written the advertisers for all of these years.  Sheila will be one of our characters in the documentary.  Help us capture Sheila's story next month.

Special Thanks!
Watch out for this because you could be mentioned this month or next!
For Aug/Sep, I want to express gratitude to Marc DiGiacomo, David Dibble and Julia RobertsonThanks much to all of you!
  • Good friend, Architect and Lead Singer for Big Lion, Marc DiGiacomo, donated money to the documentary project!
  • Several months ago, Director of Photography, David Dibble, volunteered to shoot for the documentary in the LA area.
  • Julia Robertson graciously agreed (through a trade) to edit our 10-min. work-in-progress down to five min., so it could be published online.
Aug/Sep Milestones
  • Published the (interviews only) Honoring Aging Women 5-minute work-in-progress.  Check it out now.
  • Published an article about the documentary in the Older Women's League (OWL) newsletter and, as a result, was asked to speak at San Jose State University about it.
For October
Next month, Director of Photography, Tom Borden and I plan to shoot three more characters - 71-year old, Sheila (mentioned above), plastic surgeon, Dr. Charles Lee, and 43-year old, Bekah.  We need $1,050 to make this happen.  Can you help by passing this newsletter on or by making a tax-deductible donation?  Any support is greatly appreciated!
