Singing Exam Siobhan took her AMEB (Australian Music Examinations Board) Grade 6 Singing Exam on Saturday 31 October. She received her results today - "High Distinction" (A+)! She had excellent comments for everything: Technical Work, List songs, Aural Tests, Sight Reading and General Knowledge. We are very proud of Siobhan for this well earned result. top Adelaide Fringe Festival Siobhan will be part of the 2010 Adelaide Fringe Festival. She is staging an event called "Siobhan Owen - Celestial Echoes", performing songs from her latest CD. She will put on 3 shows at the Nexus Multicultural Arts Centre: Friday 26th February, Friday 3rd and Saturday 4th March at 7pm. Siobhan performed at the Fringe in 2008 when, aged 14, she was invited to sing at one of French singer/harpist Cecile Corbel's Fringe shows after they met on Myspace. It was performing with Cecile that inspired Siobhan to start learning harp to accompany herself! top Mahler 8: Symphony of a Thousand Siobhan is delighted to successfully gain a place in the prestigious Adelaide Symphony Chorus for this spectacular event, which is part of the 2010 Adelaide Festival. "So ambitious to conceive, so audacious to perform, Mahler's monumental 8th Symphony is only ever undertaken on the rarest of occasions with its full complement of voices and musicians. Like Wagner's Ring Cycle, a performance attracts global interest. There could be no greater - or more fitting - finale for the 50th anniversary Adelaide Festival. Inspired by the spirit of creativity at the heart of this epic opus, the Adelaide Festival and the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra co-present this unique concert event. Under the baton of Maestro Arvo Volmer the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra will join forces with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra to perform the 8th, backed by a phalanx of massed choirs from across Australia plus eight international soloists." top Fleurieu Folk Festival Siobhan gave 2 performances at the Folk Festival on Saturday 24th October. Although it is now Summer here, the day turned out to be really cold and extremely windy! We thought the Marquee was going to fall down on top of us all! However, her performances were still well attended and we enjoyed catching up with old and new friends - including Tim Fatchen, one of Siobhan's Myspace friends, who is a performer and songwriter. On Sunday 25th, we returned to Willunga for the Young Performers' Festival Finale Concert. Siobhan and her harp joined other young performers on the stage to jam! Everyone provided 2 songs for all to play along to. It's the first time Siobhan had done anything like this with her harp, but she thoroughly enjoyed it. She felt privileged to be on stage with such amazingly talented young people! (The session was for 18 to 25 year olds, but Siobhan was invited even though she is only 16.) top Spring Fleadh Each October the Adelaide Academy of Irish Dancing puts on a Spring Fleadh (Irish dancing and music competitions). Two years ago, Siobhan won the Judges Choice trophy as the overall winner in the music section. This year Siobhan donated a trophy for the Judges Choice winner. She was invited along to present the medals and the trophy to the winners, and to sing something from her new CD. Siobhan really enjoyed being on the giving side of the awards for a change! Margaret from the AAID said she was an inspiration to the young musicians. top The Wedding Siobhan performed at Nadia and Gary's Wedding in the tranquil Himeji Gardens in the Adelaide parklands on October 3rd. It was a beautiful day and the bride looked stunning. The bridegroom and his groomsmen wore Irish kilts, so Siobhan's lovely Celtic singing and harp playing in the enchanting setting of the gardens were a nice addition to the wedding. Nadia said afterwards: "Siobhan was wonderful. We had a lot of comments from people at the ceremony later about her. It was very special to have her there. Give her our thanks." top New website coming soon! A new website design has been chosen and work should be completed on the main structure soon. The design is based on Siobhan's "Celestial Echoes" artwork. There is a sneek preview of the site to the left. As with all new websites, it is still a work in progress, and most likely will be for the first few months! top Recent Gigs and Happenings October started off with the last couple of "Jesus Christ Superstar" shows and the Wedding in the Himeji Gardens. Siobhan returned to the N.E. Community Nursing Home to perform for the dementia patients, which is always a rewarding experience. She was asked to join the St Francis Xavier Cathedral Choir to sing at a Wedding that had been booked prior to the changes. They wore their robes and sang from their "good" repertoire! The month ended with the Fleurieu Folk Festival, playing harp as an extra in a short Tropfest film based on a Medieval Theme Park, presenting awards at the Fleadh and her singing exam! top Coming events Below is a list of Siobhan's performances over the next couple of months.
