FreshJ. Faulkner Farms will have freshly picked sweet butter and sugar corn and Silver Queen corn that are perfect for grilling on the barbeque or roasting over an open fire (see recipe below). They also will have sweet candy onions and fresh watermelon, all certified naturally grown. Canticle Farm will have a full array of field-fresh certified naturally grown vegetables and will have a nice selection of winter squash and soy beans. Fall is in the air and that means New York State apples. Fox Valley Greenhouses has a great selection and Chuck and Phyllis are always happy to tell you the differences among the varieties so that you pick the perfect apple for your eating, baking, or winter storage needs. They also have a brand new and very unique jelly flavor: Tutti-Fruitti, which is a blend of seasonal fruit juices. Briggs Hill Maple Farm will have homegrown canning tomatoes as well as table tomatoes, freshly dug potatoes, eggplant in a variety of sizes, and their own raspberries. Artichokes, basil, carrots, and Chinese cabbage are available from Schindlbeck Farms and of course don't forget to pick up the freshest homebaked goods prepared (psst: pick up a cup of coffe at the Country Honey/Sojourner Farm stand this week to accompany a sweet treat or two from the market). EZ Family Helpers has completed its first season at the Olean Farmers Market and extends heartfelt thanks to all the great customers. When ready to grill corn on the cob,. pull down the husk but do not remove completely. Rub a paper towel over the cob to remove silk strands and put the hasks back in place. Soak the cobs in a large pot of cool water for 30 minutes (the moisutre helps it steam and prevents burning). Drain and shake out excess water. Grill ears over charcoal coals or on a gas grill for 15-20 minutes, rotating frequently with tongs, until the husks are charred. Let cool a few minutes before removing husks.
