Both meetings will be held at the University of Miami's beautiful School of Architecture, Stanley and Jewell Glasgow Lecture Hall, at 1223 Dickinson Drive in Coral Gables.

The Miami-Dade and the Keys Branch of the USGBC South Florida Chapter has an enviable track record of hosting outstanding educational programs and tours, and this month is no exception!  Admission to the panel discussion assures admission to the Branch meeting later that evening.  Come on out for a terrific two-for-one educational extravaganza!

The timely panel discussion runs from 3-5pm.  Three outstanding speakers will discuss the implementation of the Federal Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grants (EECBG) by local governments, followed by a Q&A session.

The regular monthly Branch meeting's registration and meet-'n'-greet runs from 5:30-6:30pm.  From 6:30-7pm we conduct our general business meeting, and our educational session, presented by Ernst & Young's Leisha John, runs from 7-8pm.

Branch Announcements
Emerging Professionals!

The South Florida Chapter's Emerging Green Builders (EGB) are excited to announce that they are now the “South Florida Chapter's Emerging Professionals (EP)”. The mission continues to serve as a point of entry for emerging professionals into the USGBC and the green-building movement. The EP will assist young professionals by developing resources and networks for support in their work and professional growth. To do this, the EP will continue to offer educational and networking events, including the Natural Talent Design Competition. To learn more about the South Florida Chapter;s Emerging Professionals and our activities, visit www.usgbcsf.org/ep.

Past Events

May 19 -- MDK Branch Meeting -- LEED EB

May's program, which was hosted in conjunction with the Construction Specifications Institute Miami Chapter, was special presentation on LEED EB with guest speakers Hamed Rodriguez and Jason Biondi. This first part of the presentation covered energy reduction strategies and return-on-investment time frames associated with LEED EB improvements. The second part educated attendees on the LEED credits associated with the operations and maintenance of LEED EB.

April 21 -- MDK Branch Meeting -- LEED CMP

April's program featured a special presentation on LEED CMP with guest speaker Kyle Abney. This program was important for any current LEED AP as it provided detailed information on how to maintain the LEED AP credential. Kyle, the President of the USGBC South Florida Chapter, brought his almost decade of experience with sustainable design and construction to the forefront of an outstanding educational session. As the founding president of the nation's first student chapter (University of Florida) of the USGBC, a founding officer of one of the state’s first USGBC chapters, the founding Chair of the State’s first branch of a USGBC chapter, and a board member with the Florida Green Building Coalition, Kyle is a green building pioneer and leader in the state of Florida, and we were fortunate to have him present this session.

April 16 -- MDK Branch -- GREENworking, Cando Arts Co-Op

The Miami-Dade and the Key's Branch hosted our second GREENworking event kicking off another great evening where South Florida's top designers, architects and green building professionals had a fun opportunity to socialize with colleagues. Guests enjoyed an evening of jazz fusion, complimentary hors d'oeuvres by Morton's Steakhouse and Rice House of Kabob, and complimentary cocktails while experiencing the great artwork of more than a dozen artists in all media on beautiful Miami Beach. Click here to check out our pics on Facebook!

March 25 -- MDK Branch -- Tour of LEED for Homes Silver Certified Luxury Residence

The USGBC South Florida Chapter's Miami-Dade and the Keys Branch hosted a tour of Miami-Dade County's first LEED Silver Certified Luxury residence. The home boasted LEED Silver, Florida Green Building Coalition Gold, and Energy Star for Homes Certifications. Guests got to meet the owners, General Contractor, Architect, Landscape Architect and Green Building Consultant, in addition to learing about the project's history, design and construction process.
