Big news in the fight against Rotavirus
Hello Partygoer!
Something big happened in the fight against Rotavirus yesterday. The Lancet published findings from two separate studies that showed positive results for two new Rotavirus vaccines. So why is this important for you to know? At the Party we raised money for a Rotavirus treatment called Oral Rehydration Therapy (ORT) corners. In fact, we raised enough money for Kenya to fulfill the national health policy goal of placing ORT corners throughout the country, but it's important to know that we only tackled a portion of the problem. It's great to provide life-saving ORT corners to treat children with Rotavirus, but it would be even better if we could prevent Rotavirus infection through vaccination.
This is where you come in.
Though successful findings about the efficacy of the two Rotavirus vaccines have now been published, it will take time for vaccines to get to the people who need them. Join DefeatDD's Call to Action and put Rotavirus on the radar of donors, international health policymakers, national leaders and the private sector. Your action will make a difference. Remember that Rotavirus is something that affects kids around the world. In Seattle a kid won't die from it because we can treat it quickly, but in Nairobi a kid doesn't neccessarily have the same access to care, so his or her chance of dying from diarrhea increases significantly. If we, 500 young people in Seattle, learn about this, talk to our friends about it, and post something to our Facebook status, all of a sudden we become a loud voice...and the loud kids are hard to ignore.
The ONE Campaign blogged about it
so did Melinda Gates
now it's your turn to say something.
