Inside this issue... A Guaranteed Investment Hi <<First Name>>, If you have any investments at all, they're probably worth less today than they were last year at this time. Even the best financial minds watched their investments shrink in this economy. Do you pull out of the stock market and invest in gold? Are mutual funds better than certificates of deposit? Like many churches we celebrated graduations last Sunday, and I was reminded that the best investments are not financial. They take less money but a lot more time, and the dividends are immeasurable. Ten years ago, three young brothers routinely broke into our church. Addicted to drugs, their mother was unable to feed them on her own. Hungry for food and attention, they were crying out for help. My friend Liz decided to invest in their lives. She fed them, brought them to church, and gave them clothes and the affection missing from their young lives. Then a small group got involved. They paid the boys' way to summer camps and encouraged their gifts and talents. The oldest brother is a remarkably gifted musician and received a four-year scholarship to university. He was also invited to Nashville to record a demo. Who could have guessed ten years ago that one person's investment in a young child would bring about this type of return? Look around you. Who can you invest in? Whose life will turn out differently because you cared? ABC News Spotlights Christian Film Industry by Neal Karlinsky and Victoria Thompson Hollywood can be hard to predict, but given the choice between last year's Woody Allen film, Vicky Christina Barcelona, Sean Penn in Milk and a Christian film called Fireproof, starring aging teen idol Kirk Cameron, not a single industry insider saw this dark horse coming. Review by Leo Etcharte-Tine
In a world of busy schedules and long work hours, adults can hardly find the time, let alone even remember what it is like to use their imagination. Many parents have said that technology is driving imagination out of our youth and has even clouded their ability to enjoy exploring the world in their own view. In the midst of it all, there are fathers that are too distracted by their careers demands that their lives can be characterized by all work and no play, and daughters are silently crying out for attention from their daddy. Imagine That is a film that reveals this all-too familiar scene but instead of feeding us with bad news, it takes the initiative to show us the beautiful and life-changing impact of a daughter’s imagination! Written by Ed Solomon and Chris Matheson, the story comes from ideas generated by Solomon’s own children, Evan and Olivia. Imagine That is an entertaining and touching story that is sure to inspire moms and dads to escape the worries of this world and truly treasure what is most valuable in life…their children. My rating: Imagine That has been rated PG by the MPAA for some mild language and brief questionable behavior. There is one word of caution: after this movie, your kids are probably going to want to spend a lot more time with you, so be ready!

Buyer Review Rating: Faith Lessons on the Life & Ministry of the Messiah - DVD by Ron Perallo "Excellent rental . Which lead us to purchase it for a small group Bible Study. It brought together history, culture, and geography to illuminate the Gospels. The insights we gained transformed our reading of the Gospels and inspired a deeper faith commitment. The interactive 2008 edition of the Discovery Guide was awesome." [Edited for length] [ Read more... ] Buyer Review Rating: End Of The Spear - DVD by Jacqueline Arent
"Saw it in the theater when it came out and was glad for the opportunity to see it again with my husband who hadn't seen it. His comment at the beginning? "How can anyone possibly change these people?" How great our God is! Nothing is impossible for Him. A lot of violence in the beginning but faith building. "Excellent! Captivating! There was actually a departure from the "millions and millions of years ago" comments and instead, "for thousands of years...." was used to describe how the arctic animals lived and survived in the Antarctica. Great family film. Not a dull moment." [ Read more... ]
