Hi <<First Name>>,

Are you familiar with speed dating? It's a phenomenon that swept the country a couple of years ago and is an interesting approach to dating.

Today I experienced it at a business conference. We weren't dating, but using that format as a networking tool. We had three minutes to introduce ourselves and describe our business to the person sitting across from us. That's not much time. It was an interesting challenge to communicate the essentials of both our company and my work.

I'm a storyteller so I love to spin things out, but I also realize the value of concise communication. What if someone asked me to explain the essentials of my faith in three minutes or less? Could I do that in a meaningful concise way? Or would my words get in the way?

Just as I know the tasks that fill my days, I know the ways my faith is worked out in my life. I can give a speed dating version of our company; it requires focusing on the big picture. If I apply that concept to my faith, I think I can come up with a speed dating explanation.

It may sound strange, but sometimes that's all the time we have to share Jesus Christ with another person. I want to be prepared. So grab your timer and start practicing. Not to minimize the Gospel but to distill it to its very essence, it might begin like this: God so loved the world…

Industry Interview
Christians in Cinema: Karen Kingsbury

by Angela Walker
For years Karen Kingsbury's audience has clamored for her stories to be turned into films, and this year, on September 24, they will see their wishes come true when Like Dandelion Dust opens in theaters around the country. As the author of the novel it was based on, what has it been like to see the response of the audiences who've watched the film?

Karen: I've been very excited to see the finished product. The incredible acting, directing and editing have resulted in a very high-quality product. Clearly, the wins at various film festivals have validated that. It's not just us standing around saying it's a great movie, but...

There Be Dragons on the Horizon for 2011

by Angela Walker

After the Ron Howard and Tom Hanks' films The DaVinci Code and Angels & Demons, the mysterious Opus Dei organization became a source of fascination. Dan Brown, who wrote the two books on which the movies are based, painted the Opus Dei as a secretive, power-hungry and extreme sect of the Catholic church. There Be Dragons, planned for a theatrical release in 2011, is not a rebuttal to the previous two films, but a story about the beginning of the Opus  Josemaria Escriva, the founder of Opus Dei.

Our Daily Journey
Simple - a Devotional from our Daily Journey

by Tim Gustafson - Our Daily Journey

Life seems so much simpler in the Old Testament. Obey God = get blessed. Don't obey Him = expect trouble. It's a simple theology that satisfies our craving for justice.
