Inside this issue... Creation Hi <<First Name>>, I have two tiny yards attached to my home. When I first moved in, both pieces were full of weeds. I cleaned them out and planted a couple of grapevines in the back, but that's it. After visiting friends' homes with lush gardens, I decided it was time to do something in my own yard. Armed with a few plants and stepping-stones, I went to work. I dug, planted, watered and raked then stepped back to view my creation. It was good. As I worked, I thought about God speaking things into being. I had fun at the end of the day stepping back to see what I had accomplished. Imagine God's joy at the glory of His creation. I used seven or eight varieties of plants. He created millions – many of which have yet to be discovered. I've heard it said that when we are creative, we are experiencing part of God's nature because He is the Ultimate Creator. If I'm delighted when the flowers I planted flourish and grow in the sun, how much more is He delighted when we thrive under His love and tender care? From the screening room, Angela Walker ChristianMovieNews.com Industry Interview Christians in Cinema: Brad Silverman by Angela Walker Born and raised in Los Angeles, Brad Silverman (Director/Writer) gravitated toward the film and television industry at an early age. In 2004 the door opened for Brad to become staff writer/ director and vice president of production for the newly formed (and Christian owned) Signature Productions. After writing and directing a series of successful programs for kids, in 2007 Signature Productions was incorporated as Coram Deo Studios. The following year, Brad wrote and directed the first feature film for the company, the Christian romantic drama No Greater Love. Where did the story idea come from? Brad: Our company finished the pilot for a children's TV show, and while that was being shopped around by our agent, we were wondering what to do next. Brandon (Rice, one of the producers) initially had the idea for the story. He went to the theater to see a secular romance-type movie, and while he was there, he thought it would be neat to have a movie like that from a Christian perspective. He emailed me a 3-sentence email asking what I thought about the idea, and ... After all, this is the FOURTH Shrek film. I was concerned they would simply rehash all of the old material from the first three films. And although there are bound to be a few repeat jokes, they are kept fresh and this film is every bit as good as the others and just as funny. This was one which had the kids and the adults laughing out loud. One kid laughed so hard at one scene that the audience began to chuckle more from the kid's reaction than the scene on the screen. It was contagious.
Shrek becomes overwhelmed with the responsibilities of marriage and being a father and, when he has a moment of longing for his old life, he soon gets it, thanks to a trick played by the cunning Rumpelstiltskin. Funny thing though. As the story moves forward Shrek finds he is missing Fiona and his children. And he goes about learning how he can rejoin his former life with his loved ones as the centerpiece. There are a few mature jokes and a bit of gross humor, and some violence, resulting in our recommending this movie for ages twelve plus. However, parents should consult our content listing below with care. Some children under twelve will enjoy the movie a lot. In fact, many did the night I saw it. We gladly award our Dove Seal to this upbeat and uproarious film! Shrek has now endured for four films, and just might endure forever after! [ Read more... ]
