Inside this issue... Simple Pleasures Hi <<First Name>>, Last week my family from Iowa drove out to California for their summer vacation. My stepbrother and his wife have four great kids that are a lot of fun to be around. We spent a few days at the coast where it was overcast and chilly. That didn't dampen our enthusiasm one bit. We played games, went to the beach and hung out at the pool. We met a bunch of kids and talked to every family with a dog or a fire pit. It was refreshing to have a weekend filled with simple pleasures. Remember that it's exciting to roast hot dogs and make Smores over an open fire, and you can have lots of fun in a pool with just a bunch of kids and a squishy ball or two.
Whatever your weekend holds, I hope you laugh a lot, enjoy being with friends and family, and have fun doing simple things. From the screening room, Angela Walker ChristianMoviesNews.com

Industry Interview Gavin MacLeod in "The Secrets of Jonathan Sperry" by Angela Walker With a career that spans more than half a century, Gavin MacLeod is an elder statesman of Hollywood. His newest film is The Secrets of Jonathan Sperry, by Rich Christiano. The film releases nationwide in September in partnership with churches and ministry organizations that are booking theaters and promoting the film. You've been in two of Rich Christiano's films. How did you meet and begin working with him? Gavin: My wife and I had a program on TBN called Back on Course. We filmed it for 23 years and we'd do two episodes in the morning, break for lunch, then go back out and shoot two more shows in the afternoon. One time after we finished a batch of shows, someone came and said, "Gavin, someone sent this script to you from Jay Jones office." (He's an executive with Paul and Jan Crouch) So I read the script for Time Changer from this guy named Rich Christiano, and I thought, "Wow, this could be a good movie." In his letter he said he wanted me to play this librarian. That was an OK part, and it looked like he could shoot everything in one day, but... Full Tank from Our Daily Journey by Jeff Olson - Our Daily Journey
Bernard of Clairvaux, a 12-century French abbot, once said, "The man who is wise...will see his life more like a reservoir than as a canal. The canal...pours out as it receives. The reservoir retains the water until it is filled, then discharges the overflow without loss to itself." Audiences and judges are brought together to screen the films and award prizes. The organizers behind the Wasatch Summer Bash Film Festival have a different idea. Instead of one big festival, they're hosting challenges several times a year. Save $2.23 All Roads Lead Home - DVD Dove Review: Winner of the Crystal Dove Seal Award for Best Limited Theatrical Release of 2008 This film deals with a tragedy but it is illuminated by the young actress Vivien Cardone, who brings gumption to her role of Belle. Belle lost her mother in an automobile accident and it has affected everyone in her life, including her father and grandfather. Yet Belle's lively spirit and ability to adapt begins to slowly cause the others to reflect on their lives. She is a bit rebellious but she matures as the film moves along. She eventually helps her grandfather, who rejected her because she reminds him of his dead daughter, to make some kind of peace with the past. A budding romance between Belle's father and the local veterinarian could bring some healing. This is a dramatic piece but still, it manages some humor. A parrot in the story always says "Hello" when someone says good-bye to it, and "Good-bye" when someone says "Hello." The film has mature themes including animal euthanasia. It is a compelling story and we gladly award it our Dove "Family-Approved" Seal. Families in Film Our families make us what we are. Sometimes they might drive us crazy, but they're ours, and very much a part of what makes life wonderful. |
