Welcome to the new-look ARKive newsletter, we hope this improved layout will enable you to view ARKive's latest news as clearly as possible. This month we celebrate Wildscreen’s partnership with the Veolia Environnement Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition by showcasing previous winning photographers and their contributions to ARKive.
The 2009 Veolia Environnement Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition sees ARKive supporting the Gerald Durrell Award for Endangered Wildlife, a category championed in the past by many of ARKive's contributors. The closing date for entries is Friday 27th March, so why not sort out those winning shots and enter the competition today.
All of the photographers showcased below have also contributed to Wildscreen's WildPhotos symposium - an internationally-acclaimed two-day event exploring the power of nature photography. Dates for WildPhotos 2009 have just been released - October 23rd and 24th - along with details of this year's keynote presentation by Michael 'Nick' Nichols. ARKive’s support for the Gerald Durrell Award for Endangered Species
To celebrate ARKive's support of the Gerald Durrell Award for Endangered Wildlife at the 2009 Veolia Environnement Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition, the ARKive team has created a collection of images by ten prize-winning photographers who regularly contribute to ARKive and who have also spoken at Wildscreen's WildPhotos nature photography symposium.  Yunnan snub-nosed monkey by Xi Zhinong
A strong believer in the power of images for conservation, Xi Zhinong's award winning images of the Yunnan snub-nosed monkey helped save this endangered species by showcasing its plight to the Chinese public. Zhinong presented his work and that of the China Wildlife Photography Training Camp at WildPhotos 2008.

Stefano’s work focusing on conservation and endangered wildlife has won numerous awards in the Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition. His latest award winning images of the Critically Endangered crested black macaque were showcased at WildPhotos 2008 and can now be seen in ARKive.

One of the world’s premier nature photographers, Tom Mangelsen has contributed a number of his stunning award winning images to ARKive, and Wildscreen was honoured when he agreed to speak at the inaugural WildPhotos event in 2006.
 Sperm whale by Chris Gomersall
A contributor to ARKive since its very beginning, Chris’ work with wild subjects depicted in their natural habitat brought him to speak at WildPhotos 2008. His work has contributed to many conservation campaigns over the course of his career, and he is one of very few people to have photographed the Critically Endangered slender-billed curlew.

Managing Director of the Wild Wonders of Europe initiative and multi-award winner in the Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition, Staffan has long been a supporter of Wildscreen and has contributed to both ARKive and WildPhotos with his stunning images of highly threatened species.
 Beluga whales by Doug Allan
A Wildlife Photographer of the Year winner for an image of beluga whales in the arctic, Doug’s love of the Earth’s poles can be seen in many images in the ARKive collection. When invited to speak at WildPhotos, Doug shared many stories from his eminent career, including filming polar bears hunting belugas and what to do if you become the target of their attentions!
