Blossoms in Breeze by Kay ThomasSunday, January 31

Sumi-e for Beginners
Explore sumi-e, the ancient art of Japanese ink painting. Sumi-e means black ink painting. Learn the history of this art form and how to use the special painting tools. Paint nature subjects using simple brush strokes. No previous painting experience needed.

Tai Chi 
Tai Chi is the name for a number of traditional Chinese exercises characterized by gentle movements which harmonize breathing and mental concentration. Join instructor Maureen McHugh for an eight week session.

Green Spa
Join Eleanor Reily as seen on ABC’s “190 North” and Channel 5’s “Green Scene” for her Green Spa workshop. In this hands-on workshop, participants learn to make spa-quality beauty and body treatments from fresh ingredients they already have at home, in the fridge or the pantry. All recipes are given.

Clean and Green at Home
Learn how to make simple, non-chemical cleaning products at home with vinegar, baking soda, lemons, borax and other household ingredients. Window cleaner, furniture polish, drain cleaner and other products made in the workshop and samples are given to take home. All recipes are suitable for people with chemical or environmental sensitivities, children and pets. All materials are provided.

The Unsettling of America offers a powerful critique of the postwar “Green Revolution” in agriculture that provoked the back to the land movement of the 1970s and underscores today’s discussions of local food. Discussion leader, Ben Goluboff, professor of English at Lake Forest College, brings the conversation to life.

Nature Writing Workshop
This workshop is designed for those who want to write about their experiences in nature.  In the workshop, you'll learn to better observe and describe the natural world; tell the stories of your encounters there; and explore the meaning these encounters have for you. Brushwood is open to the public 10am-2pm Tuesday through Friday, Sunday 1-3pm, or by appointment.
