Facebook Like Buttons
How to add Facebook's Like button, and track results

MailChimp Like  In July we introduced a new merge tag that integrates Facebook's "Like" button into campaigns.   We also track how many "likes" a campaign got and include that in our campaign reporting.  This is more than just a simple sharing tool, because Facebook is using "likes" to power social and semantic search.  We definitely recommend including "Like" buttons on your website, blog posts, and email campaigns if you aren't already.

Facebook's EdgeRank Algorithm
Recently, we discovered this interesting behind-the-scenes look at how Facebook ranks content to determine what to suggest to users.  Chris Sietsema, from Teach to Fish Digital, breaks down this algorithm Facebook uses.

Here's a bit of the article, explaining affinity (u):
Those who comment and like your personal updates have a higher affinity (the relationship between object creator and recipient) than those who do not.

On how weight (w) is determined:
Each object is assigned a score based on the number of comments and likes it earns.  An object with 15 comments and 20 likes has a much greater weight than an object with 0 comments and likes.

A pretty good case for including a "Like" button in your campaigns!

Optimize Emails for Sharing
Your Subscribers Are Social

Because online news is now consumed largely through social networking sites and email, it's important to consider social sharing when designing emails.  Keeping this in mind, we recently launched our new SocialPro feature , which gathers information about which social networks your subscribers are on.  You can send targeted content to parts of your list based on which social networking sites they use.

Facebook recently announced a new version of its SDK for iOS, so developers of iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad apps have easier access to the Open Graph API. With the increased focus on social sharing, this is a great opportunity for developers to add more social functionality to their apps.

Making Your Emails more Human
Rapportive's Avatars

If you've got Rapportive set up, you'll see information about the person sending you an email, but it works two ways.  Having an avatar associated with the email adddress set as your reply-to address can make your emails more personal by putting a face with your brand.  Do you have an avatar set up for your reply-to?

Someone using Rapportive would see this info about Ben, MailChimp's fearless leader, next to our newsletters.

Push Content via URL
Advanced trick for the nerds
We've opened up functionality for developers to push campaigns to MailChimp via bookmarklet.
From your app, point to this link:  http://login.mailchimp.com/partner-campaign   and add a series of optional URL parameters to build the campaign, which you can find right here.  Since this is still new, we'd love for some techies to try it out and let us know what you think!

This is Josh, our Video Guru.  He's just a little on the kooky side.  You might have experienced his wackiness through some of his vids:

Chimpadeedoo 1.2
Chimpadeedoo, our app for iPad, launched a little while ago. Now 1.2 is here! Josh created a video showing off the new version.

The biggest request initially was for custom backgrounds, so we've included that in the latest update, as well as more customization for signup forms.  Lots more updates to come.

Also chugging away are the guys in our brand new Mobile Lab.  We're focusing a lot on developing great stuff for your mobile devices, including this nifty little thing:

Golden Monkeys

One of our Mobile Lab's first projects is the GMonkeys app for iPhone, so you can keep track of your VIPs and get push notifications when one of them opens or clicks your campaign.
