Technical support will be operating as normal over the festive period and office will be closing for public holidays only (25th & 26th Dec & 1st Jan).  Emergency support cover is available around the clock every single day, as always.

The second suite in UKS North has opened it's doors with rack footprints up to 64 amps - that's 16kW.  We think that's room for three full blade chassis and makes our datacentre attractive to enterprise customers.

Whilst on site, customers are welcome to use the UKSolutions rest area and showers, available to ensure you’re comfortable should you visit us over the holidays.

IPv6 Challenge: and the winner is...
In late November we held a breakfast seminar on IPv6 (the replacement for IPv4) and our CDN services for managing global content distribution and DNS.  At the event we offered a prize to the customer coming up with the best "IPv6" address using the letters and numbers of the protocol.  The winner was Freestyle Interactive who came up with 2a02:298:F51A (Free5tyle 1nterActive)!

Their allocation is winging it's way to them just in time for Christmas!

 
Cloud Seminar: Pencil in the 19th January
Following on from our November Breakfast seminar, a number of our customers asked for a follow on session about Cloud services.  UKSolutions provides a range of private cloud virtual machines and storage solutions to help virtualise your infrastructure.

Watch out for an invitation for this session early in the new year.

 
Environmental Update from the NOC
We're pleased to announce that our best-practice optimisation programme, combined with the recent weather conditions, have worked together to reduce the Power Usage Effectiveness (PuE) of the UKS North data centre down to a new low of 1.6, which is very low for a Tier IV data centre.

How did we manage it?  The cold-aisle containment solution combined with UKSolutions' continued attention to airflow management allow the air conditioning systems to work with maximum efficiency, delivering highly reliable cooling to UKSolutions customers with the greatest possible efficiency. The extensive reporting systems UKSolutions have in place allow monitoring of all related aspects of the facility and provide an assurance that everything is working as expected.

What next?  Efficiency improvements are ongoing, and we have more in the pipeline.  We are committed to showing continual improvement on our PuE for as long as technology advances and best practice continues to allow.
