Creating a Safer Riverside
You are receiving this newsletter because of your interest in improving the safety of and reducing crime in our neighborhood.

Since our first meeting on July 14th, we have been working to develop a model program that will be implemented for the entire Riverside Avondale historic district.

Neighborhood Watch Leadership
Your leadership team is listed in the right column and you should always feel comfortable approaching them with your concerns and ideas.

If you would like to volunteer your time as a Block Captain, please email your Coordinator, Michael Estoy.

Block Captains
Neighbors who communicate and interact with you to provide Neighborhood Watch information and other important matters

Assistant Coordinators
Neighbors who assist the Coordinator in maintaining Neighborhood Watch operations, strengthening relationships with other organizations (RAP, JSO) and assisting the Coordinator as needed

Coordinator
Neighbor who maintains contact information for participants, manages community organization relationships and develops strategies to mature the Neighborhood Watch while consulting with a RAP volunteer for guidance

Neighborhood Watch Communication System
We are developing a communication system in phases to release neighborhood watch information and we will explain the framework in detail at our next meeting. It is designed to quickly reach as many neighbors as possible in multiple ways.

Below are the various technologies so you can begin considering how you would like to be contacted:

  • RAP Assisted Neighborhood Watch blog - view reported incidents, law enforcement involvement and other community news
  • Email - receive information through messages by using your computer or mobile device
  • SMS/Text Message - receive a brief message of high priority items to your mobile device
  • Phone - dedicated Neighborhood Watch number
    • Receive a phone call when an incident has been reported
    • Place a phone call to
      • Reach a Block Captain, Assistant Coordinator or Coordinator
      • Leave a voicemail for any of the above
  • Twitter - view tweets regarding neighborhood information (free Twitter account required)
  • Facebook - access a private page dedicated to our neighborhood (free Facebook account required)

Next Meeting
We had strong attendance at our first meeting July 14th and we can make our neighborhood an even less attractive target for criminals with greater participation.

Please involve your neighbors and encourage them to participate. If you do not know one of your neighbors, now is a great time to introduce yourself.

Our next meeting will be in late August on a date to be determined. We will let you know the exact date later this week. Your Block Captains, Assistant Coordinators and Coordinator will be introduced first and then the meeting will become interactive.

A few of the breakout sessions may be available depending on the number in attendance:

  • Meet with your neighbors and leadership
  • Host your own Q&A (please provide at least one week's notice)
  • View the area crime statistics as reported by JSO
  • Visit the Neighborhood Watch blog
  • Learn about the communication system
  • Q&A designated neighbors who have helped curb crime
